Know More about this tour

Visit a true naturalists paradise - Haines, Alaska. Haines boasts some of the most pristine wild country in Southeast Alaska. Your expert naturalist guide will share their knowledge of this areas unique wildlife, plants, and ecosystems.
Pause on your way to the Chilkoot Lake State Recreation Site to learn about the Lynn Canal ecosystem and get a safety briefing about being in bear country.
In May, June and July, the wildflowers are at their peak and eagles are busy caring for their young on the nest. Beginning in late July, the river fills with migrating salmon, while brown bears come down to the rivers edge to feed. As the number of salmon in the river increases, the likelihood of seeing bears down along the river increases, with a good probability of bear sightings from early August through late September.
As you drive through the park, your guide knows the best places to stop for scenery and the possibility of wildlife spotting. Your guide is equipped with a powerful spotting scope to bring the wildlife in close, and your guide will help interpret the behavior of the various wildlife and explain how the animals fit into the Chilkoots complex ecosystem. Make sure you bring your camera to take advantage of the numerous photo opportunities.
Fort William H Seward overlooks the Port Chilkoot Cruise Ship Dock. Built by the US Army in 1904, the fort has a storied past and is now privately owned and maintained featuring a number of outdoor art installations, restaurants and shops. Pass through on your way back to your ship.

Did not stop at the Chilkat Eagle Preserve and we were very disappointed. Paul did well however the drive was not too interesting.

Joe was an amazing tour guide. The tour was small, personalized, and worth every penny and more. We were fortunate enough to see a mama bear and her cubs (my personal bucket list item), but even if we hadn't seen them, the experience itself was incredible. Haines is breathtaking, and the wildlife just makes this little town an oasis for nature. Joe was incredibly passionate about his job and very knowledgeable. Thank you for giving us such a wonderful tour, and I'm glad that we bought your book to remember this trip by! A true highlight of our Alaskan trip.

Chad was one of the most knowledgeable guides I have had on this Alaska adventure. He brought us to the most beautiful spots for photography and gave us a wealth of information about wildlife and fauna as well as history about the area. Highly recommend!

This excursion was very flexible and helpful as we were coming from a cruise ship with bad weather .

My girlfriend and I had the privilege of having a private tour with Joe and David. I've never in my life seen someone as passionate as Joe is. It was an incredible experience of having him tell us all kinds of stories about Haines and the region, as well as learning about Haines' flora and fauna. Thanks to him, we learned how to take our time to fully observe the environment, which lets us see all kinds of beauty about the world and nature. Since our tour, we've taken as much time as needed to fully observe the nature around us and appreciate it. During the tour we were able to see all kinds of wildlife, like different species of birds, seals, sea lions and eagles. Joe made everything interesting and made us excited about what we were seeing. David was a great addition to the tour as well! He had deep knowledge about the region and wildlife and was able to contribute to Joe's explanations. He also brought with him a field telescope, which was awesome since we were able to observe wildlife that was really far from us and appreciate even more what we were seeing. This experience was incredible and we can't recommend enough taking a tour with them! Thanks a lot!

Great experience. We are a group of 8 (including 2 small children). Bruce was a great guide. Very patience as well. He took us to see so many wildlife. We saw so many Bald Eagles and Salmons. We also saw a mommy bear and a bear cub crossing a bridge. He also took us to so many great pictures locations.

We had a wonderful day with David, our guide. He was so knowledgeable and he really accommodated what we wanted to do. We saw mama bears with their cubs as well as bald eagles, seals and other wildlife. It was well worth our time and money.

Bruce was an amazing guide! Full of knowledge of and love for the nature and wildlife of the Chilkoot Area. We saw seals, ducks, and lots of Bald Eagles. The Bald Eagles we’re diving and fighting over salmon from the river. We then saw a mother Grizzly and her three 2 or 3 year old cubs foraging for berries etc. in a meadow off to the side of the river. We were able to stop and watch them for 20 minutes or more! Amazing. We had a box lunch at a beautiful place just off the Chilcat River. Highly recommend!

Jen, the tourguide, was awesome, she explained a lot of things about Alaska and in particular about Haines. She showed us EVERYTHING...Eagles, Salmons, Bears and Swans

The tour host was on time. Very friendly. We saw lots of bears and some bald eagles. I liked the size of the group in a large van vs a bus.
