Know More about this tour

Welcome to the real and unreal Rotterdam experience!

Start off your tour with a walk through Chinatown where you will meet one of the tallest Dutch men to ever live in 1950s, and once the tallest person alive in the world! On the way to the Central Station you will hear even more unusual city anecdotes about the old and the current zoo in Rotterdam.

Learn how modern and efficient the city centre had been reconstructed after WWII by visiting the new central district established in the 1950s. You will also gain a bit of insight about the problems Rotterdam faced when it grew from 1872 to 1960s to be the largest port in the world for almost 40 years afterwards.

Walk through formerly squatted buildings where a small nightlife district was established a few years ago, along with some tourism and architecture companies. You will literally walk through the buildings thanks to the new 390 meter-long Pedestrian bridge inspired by New York's High-line and discover how it helped to rejuvenate and reintegrate one of the formerly forgotten areas of the city

Contrast the modern with the old architecture by passing through the famous street where the past, the present and the future meet. The area thanks its name to a cluster of various buildings, almost a 100-year old City Hall which survived the bombardment, a reconstruction of a former carpentry house and even the Timmerhuis, one of the most modern and sustainable buildings in the country.

Walk along the Binnenrotte to the Market and the Cube Houses. A historic area where 'Rotte-dam' was established as a fisherman's village from 1270. On Saturday's there will be an outdoor market there. The tours will finish between the Cube Houses and the Markthal so that you will see the most usual and eclectic architecture of Rotterdam and get the best recommendations on what to eat in the market after your tour!

In spite of the showers, Frank led us on a very informative walking tour of the central area of Rotterdam.
He provided many insights into the history of the city and he showed us many sites that I probably would
not have visited otherwise. Very enjoyable experience.
