  • Our guide made the difference on this tour. My wife has limited mobility so we didn't want any tour that required oodles of walking. After considering the cost of a bus transfer from the port to Rome, and hop-on, hop-off bus in Rome, we found this tour cost only about twice as much which for us was well worth it. Our driver Claudiu met us right across the street from the port exit near all the official tours. He had a late model Mercedes sedan with a spacious back seat. He gave us bottled water and asked what we were interested in seeing. I told him we'd bought skip the line tickets to the Vatican museum as we wanted to see the Sistine Chapel, but that we also wanted to spend a few hours seeing Rome. I could tell he was a little disappointed we'd be cutting short his chance to show us the city. He dropped us right at the museum meeting point and asked us to call when we were ready to pick up. Turns out the museum was a zoo, so we did little else except see the chapel. Related note about the museum: I figured we would rent a wheelchair and put down a cash deposit. They actually required you leave behind your passport, which I wasn't carrying due to safety concerns. Our agent who met us with the tickets had a long talk with the rental agent and he agreed to keep the photocopy of my passport I was carrying. The chapel was amazing, but required me pushing the wheelchair what seemed like a mile!

Afterward, we called Claudiu and told him we'd be eating lunch at a coffee shop across the street. He showed up in 15 minutes and told us where he was parking and asked us to enjoy our lunch. We caught up with him and he took us on a great driving tour of the high points that we wanted to see as first time visitors. The Coleseum, the Trevi Fountain etc. He always found a spot to park near the points we wanted to get out and walk a little bit. His driving skills were impressive, he took us down streets and alleys I didn't think the car would fit in. He got us back to the ship with time to spare but not TOO much time! He was gracious, and his love of Rome and knowledge about it was clear.

  • We did about 8 tours in 14 days and Valerio was one of the best tour guides ever! He is extremely knowledgeable and worked hard to get us the best deals everywhere (he even threatened a street vendor who tried to price gouge me for a selfie stick)! I could not more highly recommend Valerio!

  • Giovanni was right on time meeting us at our cruise ship. He was very professional looking and very friendly. He listened to what we expected and where we wanted to visit during our tour in Rome. He was accommodating in arranging us to skip the line for tickets to tour the Vatican Museum which saved us a lot of time due to the number of people going through the regular line. We very much enjoyed our all day tour with him. He was the best! We highly recommend him.

  • Loved our tour! Mario was wonderful and we were so happy with every part of the day!

  • If you really want to get a sense of the city and an understanding of what you're seeing, then don't take this tour. It's basically a driver who drops you off for an hour here and another hour there. An hour to eat lunch somewhere and I'm not sure what he does in all that time. Also, we had just 5 people in our group. One gentleman was from another cruise ship and he had to be back at 4:00 pm at the port. So basically we arrived in Rome at 9:45 am, first stop the Colosseum and were forced to leave Rome at 3:15 because he had to be back!!! That's ridiculous! This was suppose to be an 8 hour full day tour. It's a rip off. People that have to be back at the same time should be grouped together, We easily could of stayed till 4:30 in Rome taking our time. Instead we took 10 minute photos at the Vatican and had to leave. Very dissapointed VIATOR!!! I've used you before but this tour was terrible.

  • Valerio was wonderful. He was willing to stop for any needs we had buy something along the route, restroom, etc. He made a recommendation and took us to a great moderately priced true Italian restaurant for lunch. He basically would go and/or do whatever we wanted to do as a group of 4. Lines to get inside the Vatican or museum or Colosseum were several hours long, so to be able to go to these and go inside of all is impossible in 8 hours. Highly recommend the tour and Valerio!!!

  • Rome was absolutely breathtaking! But I must first address why we only gave it 3-stars. When we booked this tour, we were under the assumption that we would be seeing all of the things advertised on the tour. After all, the reason we booked THIS specific tour is because they advertised that we would be seeing everything listed. I now know that seeing everything listed on this tour is impossible and I wish that Viator would have been more upfront when we booked it. As soon as we were picked up by our driver, we were told that the travel company Viator advertises that we will see all of these sites in 1 day to make the most money but that in reality, we will not be able to see everything. Our group of 13 was immediately told that we must choose between the Vatican or the Colosseum but that doing both was impossible. This was an incredibly frustrating and upsetting way to start out our tour. While we appreciated the honesty of our driver, we felt very mislead and even cheated out of our money from Viator. Luckily, our small group random people all agreed that we would like to see the Colosseum more than the Vatican on this tour. I'm not sure what would have happened if we didn't agree. Once our tour began, our tour guide Paolo was WONDERFUL! He was FULL of information and kept us moving quickly so we got to see as much as possible. We were able to see The Colosseum, Roman Forum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and Navona Square. We did not get to see the Vatican City or Saint Peter's Basilica. Our time in the Colosseum was only 30 minutes because of being so rushed to see everything on the tour. Do not pick this tour if you want time to be able to explore more of the Colosseum. And definitely do not book skip the line tickets unless you are GUARANTEED to go to a place. A lady in our group had those for the Vatican, and we never went there. Otherwise, Rome was full of life and was absolutely breathtaking. Be prepared for a TON of walking! Paolo also hooked us up at a wonderful Italian lunch place. The tour really did cover as much as possible but I do feel like Viator could do a better job at being upfront of the time constraints.

  • Our driver Valerio picked us up on time from the cruise terminal. The van was well presented and clean. Be prepared for at least a 90 minute trip due to morning traffic. Valerio was very well informed, friendly and gave us great tips on where to eat and where the seemingly one public toilet is located in Rome. I would not hesitate in recommending Valerio for anyone visiting Rome even for a day.

Given the sheer volume of tourists, even in Oct, don't expect to line up for entry to anything unless you're prepared to see only that site as lines can eat up 1 to 3 hrs depending on the site. Instead enjoy the usual suspect sites from the outside in a reasonable timeframe and visit a couple of other sites not expected. A very enjoyable day which has given us the incentive to return for a longer stay.

  • Rome is a long ride from the ship and hard to get around with a bus so a small van or car will be needed. We had 4 in a 6 person van and it worked out great. David, our driver, knew exactly where to go and when. we were able to see the Pope's Wednesday talk and he was able to drive us up to attraction . no time wasted looking for lines or where to see.
one bit of advice in Italy. bring TP. most toilets do not have any and the women in our group did not like the experience!
otherwise Rome is beautiful but very crowded.

  • Driver was very helpful. He took us to the places we wanted to visit and was careful to get us back to the ship on time.
