Know More about this tour

King John’s Castle

Our first stop is the 13th century King John’s Castle of county Limerick. The castle itself was built by the notorious King John, brother of famous Richard the Lionheart, and is widely regarded as one of the best-preserved Norman castles in all of Europe.
The castle itself was built upon an old Viking settlement and our tour will give us insight of the medieval era of Ireland ranging from the viking invaders to the Lords of Ireland. (Entrance Fee Included) Following our visit to King John’s Castle we will drive through Lisdoonvarna the home of the oldest matchmaking festival in the world and Kilfenora home of one of Ireland’s most popular traditional Céilí bands.

Wild Atlantic Way Coastal Drive

Following our castle visit, we will drive along the Wild Atlantic Way which is brimming with magical views, including the Aran Islands and the surfing beaches of Fanore and Galway Bay. During our coastal drive, we will take you off the beaten track and visit the famous “baby cliffs.”
These hidden treasures are a pleasure and a splendid surprise for our guests. Shorter than their big cousins, the Cliffs of Moher, these smaller cliffs offer the ideal opportunity to catch a glimpse of whales and dolphins swimming off our Atlantic Coast. In addition, our stop at the baby cliffs will provide the perfect opportunity to ramble over the magical limestone landscape known as the Burren region.

Doolin Village

For lunch we will stop at the traditional village of Doolin. This village boasts some of the best traditional Irish pubs and restaurants where you can order renowned local dishes including Doolin’s famous seafood chowder, soda bread and freshly brewed Guinness.

Cliffs of Moher

We arrive at the world famous Cliffs of Moher, one of the world's great natural attractions where you can enjoy a relaxing walk and breathtaking views. Rising 820 feet above sea- level and standing only 100 feet shorter than the Eiffel Tower, the Cliffs offer a stunning overlook of the Galway Bay, Aran Islands, and the rugged Connemara wilderness. You will have plenty of time to enjoy all the Cliffs have to offer with this one hour and thirty minute stop – the perfect amount of time based upon years of guest feedback.

Return to Dublin

On our journey back to Dublin we will take a comfort stop where you can stretch your legs or grab a snack before our final trek.  We will get you back to Dublin for approximately 19:30, with plenty of time to enjoy the evening. You can request to be dropped off either in downtown Dublin, where our driver can recommend restaurants, pubs, and entertainment for you to pursue, or we can drop you off at the same hotel you were collected from this morning.

  • Full day tour to the eastern side of Ireland with Patrick of Elegant Ireland Tours. We stop in Limerick along the way for a visit to King John's Castle - very understated as castles go but affords a lovely view of the town. We continue to to the Cliffs and run the gamut of weather, wind, rain, rainbows and sun. Fortunately, by the time we reach the cliffs the wind has died down somewhat. We opt to take the optional ferry boat which offers beautiful views of the cliffs from the water - the seas were pretty big so it was a bit of a ride still fun. We had lunch in the town of Doolin then walked along the top of the cliffs. Absolutely stunning views!

  • Graham was the best. He was warm and friendly and made the 3 of us feel right at home. I was so happy with the small group and thankful that the tour was not cancelled. We enjoyed the cliffs, both small and large. We also had lunch at a local pub that Graham knew and got to enjoy a little local culture. Thank you Graham. You were the best.

  • Your tour is only as good as your driver/guide is and Patrick certainly did not disappoint. Nicely we only had a total of 6 in our group so made for a more personal experience. This is a very long day, 12 hours round-trip, but he broke up the stops nicely. In lieu of King Johns Castle we were able to get to take the ferry boat ride Patrick called ahead to make the arrangements after our group was in consensus to do it to experience the base of the Cliffs of Moher looking up from the Atlantic Ocean. This is a very seasonal opportunity we were there Oct. 3rd and the weather for that area cooperated that day. Still a very choppy boat ride so word to the wise it did warrant a little queasiness if you are prone to that. But we were only out there for about 30 minutes. The Burren is not much to see, we just had a photo stop, but we would probably say that's not a highlight of this tour by any means. On the way back we stopped at the Bunratty Castle since we skipped King John's but unfortunately it was closed. However, a pint at Durty Nellies solved that problem! Overall, well worth leaving Dublin for a day. Be sure and ask for Patrick when booking this trip!

  • What a great tour! We started the day off with a stop to buy some breakfast items at a petrol station. Don't be like us and ponder your options, it will sell out! Go straight for the sandwiches!!

Kings John's Castle was a little underwhelming, but still a nice stop to have a look around a castle. There were some great interactive activities inside the museum section. The view from up in the tower was beautiful, so make sure you go up there!

The Burren was absolutely beautiful and a great opportunity to take some amazing photos. We had a windy day, which meant it was rather cold up on the cliffs. Be sure to rug up for this trip!

Lunch was at an old pub between the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher, with the usual pub options for food. The Clam Chowder was delicious!

The last stop of the day is the Cliffs of Moher. We headed to the right, however I do believe the left may have been the better way to go. The view was spectacular.

I highly recommend this tour while in Dublin. It is a long day, but well worth it!

  • Weather was rainy and windy but that didn't take away from the experience. The Cliffs are breathtaking. Lunch was at a small pub which was wonderful.

  • Great tour with Patrick! He is knowledgeable, engaging and allows for quiet time to soak in the countryside. Highly recommend it.

  • The Cliffs of Moher and the Durren are a MUST for an Ireland tour! There was sufficient time to explore both. Also enjoyable was glimpsing the beautiful Irish countryside. We were treated to a surprise by our guide, Rory - a highway rest stop honoring former President Barak Obama who has a distant great grandfather from Ireland.

  • This was an exceptional tour. Small group. incredible sights. Excellent host Patty. Very good food. Right amount of time. Comfortable bus. Loved it! If you haven't yet, recommend raincoats comfortable walking shoes and no umbrellas to guests.

  • Si nice! Driver do everything to be sur than this trip will be perfect. And it was.

  • The tour guide was informative but informally dressed hard to pick him out in a crowd. Our group was small but less mindful of time than others we'd been in. The stops were well-timed, and the sights were well-chosen. There was a lot of self-exploration involved, and not much included via food/drink/water. I'd probably pay a little more to have on-board water, and a pre-paid meal or snack on the lengthy return trip. The van was comfortable, and we could hear the guide easily. So generally a positive experience and introduction to southern Ireland.
