Know More about this tour

Start your day off early with a pick-up from your hotel between 2:45am and 3:15am. Your guide will accompany you for the 3-hour drive into the Colca Canyon to reach the town of Chivay, located at 3,600 meters (11,800 feet) above sea level. Arrive at 6am and have breakfast here. Drive through the scenic landscape passing by agricultural fields, Antahuilque, the Choquetico Tombs and the tiny village of Yanque towards Cruz del Condor viewpoint. Watch quietly and patiently to see the giant Andean Condor flying silently overhead from this impressive overlook point.

Afterwards, you'll return to Chivay by way of Maca village where you can watch farmers plowing their fields and stop in the beautiful XVI century colonial church. Upon arrival to Chivay, we will stop at the La Calera Hot Springs so you can relax and soak in the therapeutic pools if you wish. Have lunch on your own in Chivay and enjoy free time to visit the local marketplace and main square.

At 2pm, you'll make your way back to Arequipa visiting the viewpoint of Patapampa at 4800 meters (15,750 feet), the highest point between the Colca Canyon and Arequipa, to view the Ampato volcano where the mummy Juanita was discovered. Afterwards, you'll continue to Toqrapampa, where you can see small lagoons filled with Andean birds. Our last stop will be Pampa Caahuas National Park, where we will be able to see llamas, alpacas and vicuas before arriving to Arequipa at approximately 5pm. You'll be dropped off in the Arequipa city center after a fun and busy day!

Our tour left Arequipa at 2.40am and then drove for three and a half hours to the Colca Valley. The drive was unbelievably cold despite our guide handing out blankets as there was ice on the inside of the windows! The included breakfast that was heavily promoted as a perk of the tour and the toilet facilities were comically basic. There is a quick pit stop in one of the towns which would have benefited from being longer so that you weren’t rushing to use the toilet, pet an alpaca and buy a souvenir in under 20 mins. Then a couple of quick stops at viewpoints. The main attraction which was allocated 45 mins was the condor viewpoint which was very crowed with probably 400-500 people. We then stopped at the thermal baths for an hour and then another hour for lunch then back on the bus for another quick stop at a view point of a volcano then back to Arequipa, arriving back at 5.45pm. In total, for a 15 hour day we spent around 9.5 on the bus which wasn’t particularly comfortable but must have been horrendously gruelling for the driver. Positives: We saw two condors and the view of the canyons are impressive. Negatives: A huge amount of time spent on the bus. “Included breakfast” was a piece of bread and weak coffee. Better to not offer this and let people bring their own food. Every stop felt like an opportunity to fleece the rich European/American tourists (price for us was 70soles but for everyone else was 5 to 15 soles). Prices for souvenirs at some of the stops was double that of the market in Arequipa. Overall I wouldn’t bother with this trip as the view of the canyon didn’t justify the early get up and long day spent on the bus.

We booked this tour even though it was more expensive than others because the itinerary was longer and nicer but the guide did not respected the plan. We never went to Chivay and we stopped for lunch in a buffet place in the middle of nowhere.. so if you want to eat something you had no other choice. Most importantly we were interested in visiting the off springs, as well as most of the other people travelling with us and we agreed this with the the guide in the morning but then we never went there and the guide did no provide any explanation.. he sat quietly next to the driver for most of the tour providing the minimum information possible. We arrived in Arequipa 1h and 10minutes ahead of schedule. Thankfully we saw the condors flying on the Colca canyon and it was worth the trip but overall I will not recommend this tour, other tour operators had better value for money.

This tour started out badly. We were told to be ready to be picked up from 2:30 I believe and it was almost 4 a.m. Before the nice bus arrived. They had someone else's name listed and that had to be straightened out. From there it got better. The guide was very good, we saw a lot including 4 giant condors and had time at the hot springs.we were taken by taxi back to our hotel. This tour gave us the opportunity to see a lot of the country side in the area which we enjoyed very much.
This tour is very good value for the cost.

Poor service, poor food option, cramped van, not all covered as listed, will not be using Viator as I could get better value booking directly.

I would have given 2 stars but then it would have meant it was okay. I expect a lot better than a and its service providers. There are many options in the main square where you can book the tour for half the price I paid online for ther service provided. The driver was slow and did not reach until about 6:45am. The breakfast was very basic, I did not see any coffee. Their was more time spent on lunch and breakfast than the site itself. Lunch was in a very poor restaurant, prices were over the top for the food given and you had no choice since there was nothing else in the vicinity and it was not in the main square of Chivay where you could at least pick and choose. Here it was either this or no lunch. The tour did not go into Chivay at all. Yes, the tour gave time to see the condors fly, but to travel for a total of 7 hours for less than 4 hours of viewing, because breakfast/lunch was another 2 hours. I was not well which did not help matters, but it would not matter even if I was well. I expected better service and transportation booking though a otherwise I would have booked directly at the town square.
