Know More about this tour

Meet your guide in the early evening at Piazza Venezia in central Rome, and set off on your leisurely paced evening walking tour. Stroll past Trajan’s Column, the triumphal column that was built to celebrate a Dacian War victory, and head to Capitoline Hill to visit Piazza del Campidoglio – a lavish 16th-century square designed by the Renaissance supremo Michelangelo.

The Roman Forum is closed at night, but your guide will lead you to a little-known vantage point in Piazza del Campidoglio that offers a perfect vista of the site. Watch the soft evening light set on the city’s ancient monuments, seeing all the notable ruins, like the Sanctuary of Vestal Virgins – a temple that was once home to Rome’s most revered women.

See Caesar’s and Augustus’ forums as you walk down the hill, and then stop outside the highlight of your tour – the Colosseum. Basking in its Roman-era glory, the city’s undisputed A-list attraction is virtually empty at this time of night, leaving the ancient structure filled with shadows rather than shuffling feet. Walk around the reconstructed arena floor, and stand in the space where battles were once fought, while hearing all the little-known details of the gladiator games from your guide. Little of the original arena floor still exists, but the gaps in the surface offer a great vantage point to the underground levels below.

Then, head below ground to see the chambers for yourself, working your way through the tunnels where gladiators and beasts walked before being hoisted to the arena floor via trap doors. Few visitors to the Colosseum get to walk through these chambers, as they are only open to a limited number of people per day; even better, you’ll be one of a very select few to see the chambers at night, making this visit even more exciting.

After exploring the Colosseum’s darkened corners with your guide, your tour ends outside the monument.

  • Highlight of the trip! Hearing crickets on the floor of the Colloseum was unforgettable. Also we had the best tour guide! She was very excited for us and a Roman who knew her stuff. Do this if you want to see the Colloseum!

  • Irene was SOOO wonderful. She had an incredible knowledge and we absolutely LOVED her enthusiasm!!! She answered questions and was so kind and patient with one of the tourist's child that clung to her and asked her silly questions. She was never rattled or s hort. We thought she was lovely and kind and extremely knowledgeable about the historic sites. Her pace was perfect and at the end of the tour, we completely felt like her friends!

  • It was really an incredible experience to be in the Colosseum at night, exploring areas generally not available and without a crowd of people. There were other tour groups about but the system meant no two groups were in the same area at once and this worked brilliantly. For most of the tour we felt like we were the only group there. We had ample time at different points of interest and our guide was knowledgeable and informed us of history and other sights on the way to the Colosseum. I would recommend this tour without hesitation.

  • Great tour with great guide and seeing the underground portion of the stage was the best part. I would have preferred to go during the daytime but my wife won out on this one.

  • This was a good tour. I did have issues finding the meeting place, but still made it. The group size was too big for this tour. It would be about 5 minutes after the guide said something when I could actually see what she was talking about. It was very nice to be on the arena floor and underneath. Doing a tour at night is definitely recommended because it feels different than during the day.

  • What a great way to beat the crowds and see the Colosseum at night with a small group. We were the 1st small group in that evening and had the whole place to ourselves to start which was pretty amazing. Very knowledgeable guide that gave just the right amount of info and could answer your questions. Seeing it at night with the lights is very special and I'd highly recommend this fun way to spend an evening.

  • This was a fantastic tour. There were No crowds around the Colosseum at night the exhibits were well illuminated the tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and the tour group size was fairly small 25. It was everything I expected and more.

  • We went for the purpose of taking really cool pictures. You could NOT get a picture like the one shown. They walked from quite a distance on a path that wouldn't allow for this photo. Also, all the lights were not on in the colosseum, and of the ones that were on, the bottom lights were blue and the top two were white/golden. Therefore, pictures were not that great. As far as the tour goes, the guy stopped and pointed to pictures way too often. Way too often. Everyone was dying to get to the underground. When we got to those steps, he said we need to hurry or we will be locked in. Therefore, he rushed the one part most people wanted to see. Also, the ticket isn't good for the forum. Daytime tickets get you into both. We did enjoy it, but might suggest cheaper daytime tour.

  • Truly amazing to see the Colosseum with the moon and the internal lights in the ruins! I loved everything about this tour and our guide was especially patient with some wandering family groups! Great job!

  • Our lovely guide was very knowledgeable about art history which was fascinating to me. Such a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it as you almost have the entire Colosseum to yourself!
