Know More about this tour

Meet your guide in the early evening at Piazza Venezia in central Rome, and set off on your leisurely paced evening walking tour. Stroll past Trajans Column, the triumphal column that was built to celebrate a Dacian War victory, and head to Capitoline Hill to visit Piazza del Campidoglio a lavish 16th-century square designed by the Renaissance supremo Michelangelo.

The Roman Forum is closed at night, but your guide will lead you to a little-known vantage point in Piazza del Campidoglio that offers a perfect vista of the site. Watch the soft evening light set on the citys ancient monuments, seeing all the notable ruins, like the Sanctuary of Vestal Virgins a temple that was once home to Romes most revered women.

See Caesars and Augustus forums as you walk down the hill, and then stop outside the highlight of your tour the Colosseum. Basking in its Roman-era glory, the citys undisputed A-list attraction is virtually empty at this time of night, leaving the ancient structure filled with shadows rather than shuffling feet. Walk around the reconstructed arena floor, and stand in the space where battles were once fought, while hearing all the little-known details of the gladiator games from your guide. Little of the original arena floor still exists, but the gaps in the surface offer a great vantage point to the underground levels below.

Then, head below ground to see the chambers for yourself, working your way through the tunnels where gladiators and beasts walked before being hoisted to the arena floor via trap doors. Few visitors to the Colosseum get to walk through these chambers, as they are only open to a limited number of people per day; even better, youll be one of a very select few to see the chambers at night, making this visit even more exciting.

After exploring the Colosseums darkened corners with your guide, your tour ends outside the monument.

  • Great tour,
The tour was more than just the Colosseum, we were given an overview of the whole area as we walked towards the Colosseum.
I have seen the Colosseum by day but by night it's a whole different place.
I would highly recommend this tour to any one.

  • Pretty cool night tour with small group and unique views. You’ll see the colosseum like nobody else.

  • We opted to do this tour as we thought it would be different to visit the colosseum by night and we were not disappointed.
The guide is very professional and when they meet you at the designated meeting point she finds out a little about you all such as where your from in the world. The tour starts with a walk through the streets of Rome where you learn a little of its past visiting some of the ruins that have been discovered and that have been illuminated for photo opportunities.
The guide we had was an archaeologist so her knowledge of the the city and ruins was very good.
The group is small less than 20 so not too big to try and keep track of.
The Colosseum by night is a must as there are not so many people as it's only open to tour groups at night. When you first enter for at least the first 10 minutes you are the only people to be in there. You explore areas that are not available to the public during the day. A real sense of atmosphere and you are transported back to the days of the gladiators.

  • Colosseum was beautiful at night though i wish more of the things were lit up. Explanations of other parts of ancient rome were good though it was hard to see things as one might expect at night. Guide was knowledgable.

  • Absolutely amazing guide, knowledgeable and friendly and obviously passionate about her love of Rome and the Colosseum! We were the first group into the Colosseum in the evening, and had the place to ourselves for almost an hour. Highly recommend.

  • Night tour was great. Felt like we went back in time.

  • Highlight of the trip! Hearing crickets on the floor of the Colloseum was unforgettable. Also we had the best tour guide! She was very excited for us and a Roman who knew her stuff. Do this if you want to see the Colloseum!

  • Irene was SOOO wonderful. She had an incredible knowledge and we absolutely LOVED her enthusiasm!!! She answered questions and was so kind and patient with one of the tourist's child that clung to her and asked her silly questions. She was never rattled or s hort. We thought she was lovely and kind and extremely knowledgeable about the historic sites. Her pace was perfect and at the end of the tour, we completely felt like her friends!

  • It was really an incredible experience to be in the Colosseum at night, exploring areas generally not available and without a crowd of people. There were other tour groups about but the system meant no two groups were in the same area at once and this worked brilliantly. For most of the tour we felt like we were the only group there. We had ample time at different points of interest and our guide was knowledgeable and informed us of history and other sights on the way to the Colosseum. I would recommend this tour without hesitation.

  • Great tour with great guide and seeing the underground portion of the stage was the best part. I would have preferred to go during the daytime but my wife won out on this one.
