Nijmegen, one of the places in Netherlands that suffered a lot during WWII- it was accidentally bombed by American planes. On this guided tour, you will be exploring facets of the city related to the infamous war and the Operation Market Garden. You will get an insight into the region’s tragic history. The tour itinerary includes a visit to the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek which has on display memorabilia from Operation Market Garden.
In this combination tour we will visit Nijmegen and Airborne Museum Oosterbeek.
In 1940 Nijmegen was the first Dutch city to fall into German hands, it was accidentally bombed by American planes and it saw heavy fighting during Operation Market Garden. We will see remains of the fights, some memorial monuments and the famous Waal Bridge. After a lunch or coffee break we will go to the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek (twenty minutes drive by car/taxi). The monumental 19th century villa houses the world's largest collection of Operation Market Garden memorabilia.
