Overview
Many of Krakow's most famous communist artefacts are alive and well. Hop in your Trabant (or our iconic Polish Fiat or crazy Soviet Lada) with your guide and travel back in time as you cruise through the city in a car manufactured by the Eastern Bloc. Head to the Nowa Huta district, famously known as the city's communist enclave. Learn the history behind the neighbourhood that was Stalin's 'gift' to Krakow. Wander the labyrinth of tenements, designed to be a model communist city. Hear the stories of life behind the Iron Curtain as you explore the epicentre of Poland's resistance movement. This revolution led to the eventual overthrow of the communist government.
The 'Communism Tour' was featured in BBC's 'Palin's New Europe' series and covered by many international TVs and newspapers.
To upgrade your tour, select the 4-hour Deluxe option. It includes a guided visit to the abandoned HQ and offices at the former Lenin Steelworks and a lunch in an old-school 'Milk Bar' canteen.

Kornelia was an amazing guide and our only regret is we only had time for the 2.5-hour tour - a longer tour would have been even better!! We saw fascinating sites and every moment was educational and enjoyable. This is really a must-do in Krakow to learn more about this area!

A fantastic trip back in time and lots of interesting facts from our two guides. From the beginning the energy level was high and everyone in our company (young and old) were greatly entertained and educated. And just plain fun! Thank you!!
-
Best trip of our visit. Cornelia was great fun and very knowledgeable. Great to see a different side to Krakow. Brilliant driver 😜😜

We were picked up by Maciek who was the whole package - funny, nice and knowledgeable. I remember following the fall of communism in Poland back in the day but speaking to a local who lived these times was priceless. I don't want to say too much about the trip - instead you should book it straight away and experience it on your own.

Brilliant trip to Nowa Huta with our fantastic guide Mateusz. He was extremely knowledgeable and told us many fascinating and funny stories about the area. Honestly the best guided trip I’ve ever been on! A must if you are staying in Krakow.

One of the best tours i think I’ve ever done… Crazy guides deluxe communism tour in a Trabant 😀 We visited the socialist utopia of Nowa Huta, Lenin steel works & their cold war bunker and ate Pierogi in the oldest restaurant in Nowa Huta. Just a fab day ❤️ PS… forgot the wodka 😀
-
Absolutely brilliant tour with Maciek (apologies if spelt incorrectly). He picked us up in a bright blue Trabbie and was very entertaining with his tales of life as he grew up in the Nowa Huta area. The food at the milk bar was actualy tastier than food we had had in central Krakow!! A fantastic and very memorable tour for our last day in Krakow, thank you Maciek! C&S

What a trip. Our guide Cordelia was fun, the card didn´t break down and now we now a lot about Nowa Huta, the communist way of thinking. We went on the "delux tour" which I highly recommend - you´ll be rewarded with vodka and pickled cucumber. Maybe our best experience on our whole vacation and a real shout out to Cordelia! Thanks!

We had a great time with our guide Tomek. A fantastic mix of craziness and history ! My family loved that tour, we recommend it !

We had Cornelia for our tour, in her cute pale blue trabant! Can't recommend enough, excellent experience, learned so much, and the visit to the local cafe for a shot of cherry vodka was charming 🥰 Cornelia was great and very knowledgeable, we really enjoyed it, and was one of the highlights of our stay in Krakow.
