Know More about this tour

Your in-depth exploration of the histories, myths, legends, and lore hidden behind the stones of Paris’ most interesting neighborhood begins at Notre Dame Cathedral, where you’ll meet your expert guide and an intimate group of 15 people or less.

From the Gothic splendor of the bell towers of Notre Dame that inspired Victor Hugo to create his hunchback bell-ringer, to the darkest cells in the Conciergerie where condemned dissidents awaited death during the Reign of Terror, the Ile de la Cité has witnessed the best and worst of Parisian history, and you’ll hear all the stories that make it such an interesting place.

Inside Notre Dame, marvel at the famous Rose Window, admire the stunning arches of the Gothic architecture, and learn how Victor Hugo and his Hunchback of Notre Dame actually saved this beautiful building from demolition. Then travel back in time, exploring the streets of Ile de la Cité as your guide tells you what life was like here from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution (hint: it wasn’t nearly as clean as it is today).

Stop in the Conciergerie, a lovely building with a dark past that was used to host the tribunals of the Revolution and to imprison political prisoners awaiting their date with the guillotine. The building was recently renovated, including the cell where Marie Antoinette spent the last days before her execution under heavy guard and in very difficult conditions. You’ll also see a second cell where she was briefly kept, now converted into a tiny chapel.

After these dark delights, enjoy something much more life-affirming. If you thought Notre Dame’s Rose Window was beautiful, Sainte-Chapelle is going to blow you away. This royal chapel was originally built to house relics, and today it’s still one of the most jaw-dropping rooms in Paris. It’s also one of the city’s most popular attractions. Luckily, you have skip-the-line tickets, so you’ll walk right past entrance line that can be hours long.

After a lunch break (with plenty of restaurant recommendations from your guide; own expense), reconvene for skip-the-line access to the towers of Notre Dame. With a timed entrance, your guide gets you past long line and straight inside, accompanying you to the first-level foyer and then leaving you to do the climb and visit at your own pace. Like at Sainte-Chapelle, the towers of Notre Dame are popular for good reason — you’ll get up close to the famous gargoyles and inside the bell tower to see where the hunchback lived.

Your tour provides access to the highest point of the cathedral, too, with a 360-degree vantage point for some of the best views of the city. After all, when you climb the Eiffel Tower, you can’t see the Eiffel Tower! From Notre Dame, however, you have the whole city at your feet.

  • Lilya was fabulous. She is very informative and was truly a gift for us being that it was our first time in Paris. Excellent

  • The tour was wonderful and very comprehensive! Violet was a wonderful tour guide - very engaged, friendly, funny and interesting! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Paris!!!

  • This was a great tour! The guide was extremely knowledgable on a large variety of topics. I didn't feel rushed, and the headphones made it very easy to hear her. I highly recommend this tour!

  • This was a great walking tour. Felix was an interesting guide, kept your attention throughout the tour. I learned a lot about the history of Notre Dame and the surrounding area. The tour is most of the day so you really get a chance to see things close up. Highly recommended.

  • Our tour guide, Lilya, was AWESOME!!! She was the most informative by far and tirelessly pointed out a lot of interesting facts all throughout the day. We liked how this tour was structured with the tour of Notre Dame first, then a tour around Ile de la Cite, followed by the Conciergerie and the lunch across the street where the service and the food were great. Lastly, we climbed the Notre Dame tower. Climbing the 420 plus steps were not as bad as it seemed, but one can opt out like my parents did. The teens in our group found Lilya very friendly and smart. I guess it helps that she used to be a History teacher!

  • Our guide Felix was amazing in the breadth and depth of knowledge, and incredibly passionate about the topic. What a fabulous tour!! Sainte Chapelle is a must see!!

  • Our tour director Felix was amazing. His knowledge of subject matter, passion and enthusiasm of this grand cathedral gives this tour a five star rating. We would give more stars if we could. His approach to this tour will blow you away.

  • The tour was great. Our tour guide Aurelie was very knowledgeable. I would probably skip the Conciergerie next time and spend more time on the Saint Chapelle which was a very pleasant surprise. The skip the line for Notre Dame towers is well worth it.

  • We were delightedwith our tour of Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle and La Conciergerie . This was mainly due to our wonderful guide Felix. His knowledge and stories were fantastic and we would not hesitate to take another tour if he was our guide.

  • Great! Especially the trip to the top of Tower. Our Guide Lilia sp?, a USA ex-Pat, was outstanding! The tour through the old city was particularly informative, including the French Supreme Court and the old prison Marie Antoinette's cell was also excellent.
