Know More about this tour

After meeting your guide near Frederiksborggade in central Copenhagen, stroll around the city to learn about Danish cuisine and its gastronomic heritage. Throughout the past few decades, Denmark gained quite a conservative reputation when it came to food. However, its cuisine is experiencing a food revolution and many Copenhagen restaurants are replacing the heavy dishes of bygone decades with meals cooked from seasonal, local ingredients that sing with clean and pared-down flavors.

The best place to sample the new Nordic cuisine is, of course, in Copenhagen, so let your guide introduce you to the locals favorite eateries. The citys burgeoning food scene is constantly evolving, so restaurants and delicatessens may be swapped on the day of your tour. Places mentioned are just intended to give you an idea of where you may visit.

Start with a stroll to Torvehallerne covered market halls to see Arla Unika, Copenhagens flagship cheese shop. Sample artisan cheese, developed in collaboration with the citys Michelin-starred chefs, and admire the pungent wares on offer before strolling to Bornholm Shop to try liquorice, caramels and preserves.

Wander through Copenhagen Botanical Gardens and stop for a sample of of Danish apple wine while relaxing in the beautiful green surroundings. Then, take a break in Aamanns caf a hotspot for locals enjoying hearty open sandwiches called smrrebrd made from sourdough rye bread and predominantly organic and free range produce. Continue to a nearby restaurant called Nrrebro Bryghus to sample three different types of home-brewed beer, and then soak up the alcohol with an organic hotdog sample from Copenhagens Ecological Hotdog Stand.

Finish your tour at Summerbird Chocolate. Producing Copenhagens most luxurious chocolate and candy, the shop is also popular for its (highly addictive) fldeboller chocolate-coated marshmallows.

Having eaten your way around Copenhagen, return to the start point where your tour finishes.

  • Our tour guide was really nice. We expected to go with a group of people and to be more focused on the food rather than the history of where it came from, how it was made and the story of the owners of the venue. If you're really hungry - have a BIG breakfast. It's basically grazing with fish at every turn and mere morsels here and there. Again, lady was lovely and a wealth of knowledge but for true foodies who actually want to eat .....research the best places and take yourself.

  • Fantastic experience. Highly recommend.

  • This was fantastic tour. We were provided great food sampling and history. It allowed us to understand the city a bit and help us navigate when we were our own. i would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Copenhagen!

  • The Copenhagen food tour was a highlight of my stay in this great city. I loved that it was basically walking tour with an informative narration by our attentive guide. The tour started with a good overview in a gourmet food market where we were offered regional specialties at a series of stalls, a wonderful lunch of open faced sandwiches in casual, but nice restaurant, a tasty local 'polse' at a popular hotdog stand, and we rounded up the tour in a microbrewery with a generous range of beer samples in a cheerful setting. The guide was charming, welcoming and well informed of the city's history, which added to the enjoyment of the experience. There was a lot of fast-paced walking involved, so it may not be for everyone, but is on my list of must do it again for the next time in Copenhagen. I have recommend it to friends. Like all tours, the guide is a big factor in making the same itinerary either terrific or just OK, and our guide was a winner. I would have appreciated better directions to the meeting place.

  • I loved this tour! It was fun, informative and oh so delicious. Our guide, Rosemary, was fabulous. Her love of the city was infectious. We learned about the neighborhoods we visited and sampled great food. The food! It was all yummy - from the honey at the Botanical Gardens to the smørrebrød at Aamanns and the amazing cheese at Torvehallerne! And there was so much more we ate! The pace was perfect and the amount of walking was just right. I'm so glad we took this tour at the beginning of our vacation. It set the tone for a wonderful trip. Thank you, Rosemary.

  • The old adage applies: save the best for last. My girlfriend and I only had a few days in Copenhagen, and we were excited that the Copenhagen Food Tour would be our last main event. Birgitte did not disappoint. From the first few minutes of the tour until its waning seconds, Birgitte's passion and excitement never faded. She was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Copenhagen, the role food has played in the country's development and evolution and about the city in general. For a couple of foreigners, her insight gave us a different appreciation of the city, and is something that we will not soon forget. Highly recommended!

  • We had no trouble locating our guide downtown, so that was a plus. The stops were fun and food was great. People need to realize when they say it is a 3-4 hour tour you are walking 80 of that time. I felt sorry for a couple who dropped out because of the walking demands. The tour focused on mostly beer, I would recommend giving wine equal time. I would recommend this tour to others. Good way to explore the city and get a flavor for the local food! The botanical gardens were beautiful and we were blessed with great weather!

  • We had a great time. We have done many food tours and this is up among them. A shame we didnt get to do the lolly shop, but being a Sunday tour it was closed. Thoroughly recommend this. Out tour leader was very knowledgeable and very funny

  • We've had the most enjoyable Saturday in Copenhagen with the food tour and our guide Gitte. Not only was Gitte the most aimable and funny person, but fluent in German, English, Danish and Swedish! She led us through Copenhagen always making sure everyone was feeling good. We started at Torvehallerne in Copenhagen with some nice treats and walked a nice long tour through the city, visiting Aamanns, a deli where we had a very delicious choice of smoerrebroed, had a beer tasting in one of the local breweries, ate organic poelser at a local stand in the city and found other nice places, chocolate not being excluded :- Everything garnished with informative and funny anecdotes by our guide. We highly recommend the tour for everyone in Copenhagen and although this was our second visit to the city we found places and areas we hadn't been to the first time. Nordic cuisine is definitely a highlight and the tour gives you a very good first insight into it!!!

  • We have a wonderful experience walking around Copenhagen and tasting the best of its culinary culture. The number of people in our group was 10, small enough to meet people from around the world and large enough to have a beautiful sharing time.
    Our Canadian guide was amazing!
