It was a wonderful day. Cathedral Cove beach was magnificent and the "hot beach" a unique and fun experience. The first stop, a hike up to a viewpoint, was nice but could be omitted, if they wanted to shorten the day a bit. It is important especially for any older travelers to realize that good hiking shoes and a hiking stick are advisable, mainly the stick for the first, shorter hike. Although I was the only one in the group that needed the hiking stick, (being short, female and in my 60s), it really helped me navigate the rocky "stairs" on part of the first view point hike. Next, the hike itself down to Cathedral Cove takes at least 45 minutes each way, and there are many stairs without a handrail. Even though you are essentially walking down to the beach from the parking area, the walk is a good mixture of "up and down" in each direction which helps. The beach/scenery are MAGNIFICENT!!!! I go to the gym regularly, but I would say if a person is older and does not exercise, this would not be a good choice. Otherwise, it was FABULOUS! Pick up at hotel, all on time, our tour director (female, in her late 20s, sorry I forget her name) was delightful, informative, patient, and super nice. It was a highlight of my 4 week stay in NZ. We did have enough stops for food/snacks/bathroom breaks, but I brought some snacks anyway. And a water bottle is def needed. Be sure to bring a large enough backpack (or 2 bags) to carry your things. I wore my swim suit under my clothes, which made it easier to only have to fully change after all the activities were finished (after the hot pool beach). Just want to be sure people know this day does require some physical effort!!

A great day trip while traveling through Auckland! The sights are breathtaking and the beaches are beautiful. The Hot Water Beach is so relaxing and a must do.
-
Wonderful trip to Cathedral Cove (that was the highlight for me). The Hot Water Beach was a little crowded (Sat. of a Holiday Weekend) and the view from Mt. Paku was super. Clay was a great guide.

This tour with Rachel was fabulous! It exceeded my expectations! Rachel was an exceptional and outstanding tour guide! She was knowledgeable, professional, kind , sensitive and caring. You could truly tell she cared immensely about her clients and the tours the tours she took them on- very passionate and enthusiastic! I have been on many tours in my life time of experiences and Rachel is by far the cream of the crop. I hope all get a chance to experience a tour with Rachel to Coromandel!!

The Cathedral Cave and Hot Water Springs trip was great. It took a few different digs to find hot water, but we did find some. Lots of people at the spot, but still pretty cool to do. Cathedral Cove was very scenic, but it does take quite a walk up and down hills, but it was worth it. It was a nice relaxing day and our tour guide Rach was awesome. She was full of energy and very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. The only downer is the 2 hours ride back, but if you want to see something that is very unique, what's two hours. Plus if it was closer there would be even more people. It was worth the time and money.

This is a really cool day trip from Auckland. Cathedral Cove is an absolute must see if you are visiting New Zealand and Hot Water Beach is definitely an interesting experience. Be forewarned though, there is hiking involved- the walk to and from Cathedral Cove requires a reasonable amount of fitness so if this is problematic for you, opt to take the boat to the cove rather than do the walk. We had the BEST guide! She not only gave us great insights throughout our trip, she also gave us great suggestions on what to do in other areas of New Zealand.

This trip was wonderful. Our guide Rachel was the best. We had such a good time. Hot water beach was really busy, but we still managed to find a spot. Our guide made sure we all were able to experience this. The hiking was beautiful and so worth it. Highly recommend.
