Round-trip transportation from downtown is included on this small-group tour, limited to eight people.

  • Fully narrated tour
  • Informative, friendly and professional guide
  • Perfect for all ages and skill level
  • Perfect introduction for first-time visitors

Know More about this tour

Cozumel, surrounded by the blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, is as much influenced by the Mayan and Spanish roots of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula as it is the cultures and cuisine of the Caribbean. During this small-group food tour, indulge in the local fare of the island, where you’re always within arm’s reach of something tasty.

Meet your food-savvy guide downtown and board the minivan en route to small, off-the-beaten-path eateries and food stalls. Start with a favorite snack of Mexican empanadas before moving on to tacos stuffed with fish fresh from Cozumel’s shores. You can wash it down with a cold cerveza.

Visit an open-air market for an introduction to regional produce, spices and other ingredients used in Yucatecan cuisine. After witnessing the bustle of shoppers, your guide stops at a neighborhood family-run restaurant, called a cocina economica, for simple but delicious home-style fare.

Finally, top off your 5-hour food tour with tastes of various sweet pastries at a traditional Mexican bakery. Sip agua fresca —a nonalcoholic fresh fruit juice blended with sugar and water — or enjoy refreshing cola or lemonade. End with return transport downtown and take delight in just having taken a huge bite out of Cozumel.

  • We got a VIP tour with Jerry - just him and us and our fabulous driver Juan. We ate and ate and ate. The food was delicious and we got to try new foods we had never heard of and only the locals make. Jerry was a wealth of knowledge not only on the food scene but the local culture as well. You don't really experience a new place until you experience it like a local. This is the second Food tour we have done through Viator will be using again on our next vacation.

  • Very good food and entertaining guide. The addition of a tequila tasting into the tour would bump this to a 5 star experience.

  • This tour topped off our week in Cozumel. Due to an incoming storm, my husband and I were blessed to receive this tour as a private tour from Jerry. He was accommodating, interesting, knowledgeable, and fun to spend the afternoon with. The driver was great as well. The food was marvelous and the selections were varied and culturally on point. We were thrilled to see the real Cozumel, taste the local cuisine, and enjoy the terrific dishes that were prepared with love for us. We would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Cozumel. Particularly those that want to get away from the tourist area near the water. We plan to repeat this tour the next trip we take to beautiful Cozumel.

  • This tour was amazing!

  • We arrived in Cozumel and got a taxi to the listed location, there is no need to get there too early as there is not much to do in the market or nearby area. Our tour guide greeted us and informed us we were the only two on the tour! What a wonderful surprise to get a private tour!

We then began our culinary education of Cozumel! From cactus quesadillas to whole fried fish to a local open produce and meat market tour I can with the utmost enthusiasm that this tour was excellent. All of our questions were answered and the locals as so pleasant to interact with at each location.

We highly recommend Jerry and Luis as your tour guides as they were on time, courteous, drove safely and told us all about the local food culture as well as about themselves. Thank you so much amigos! We will be back with friends in tow for another tour soon!

  • We had a chance to see cozumel great food great guide Jerry

  • Amazing food. Lots you will try that you wouldn't as a tourist.

  • What a great tour and experience. My wife had concerns since it was not booked through the cruise ship, but it is so simple and easy in Cozumel to find the taxi area and there was a person and line of taxis waiting. 8 later and we were at La Mega. It was fun to walk around the grocery store for a few minutes and see the different products.

We were greeted promptly downstairs in front of Office Max by our driver and then moments later Gerry arrived to get us started. Gerry is warm and welcoming. He explained the trip and how he would be taking us to see the parts of Cozumel where the other tours just never go and that we would get to try what he has found that is truly authentic food.

We quickly excited the store and into our nice air conditioned bus. I was especially impressed with the flexibility of the tour. I personally am not a fan of mushrooms, and immediately Gerry was happy to explain that he would then be showing me a different choice Poblano pepper quesadillas YUM!. I hope to take it again some day because I am sure Gerry will have me try new items next time!

After delicious quesadillas we went on to marinated pork tacos. At each stop I will mention that Gerry shows you different drink options. This is not to be underestimated as a part of the process because you can try new beers, sodas, and a variety of different drinks. Not just horchata! But I can attest the horchata is bomb!

Next we went to the tortilla factory of sorts, a market, and even to a small shop. It is such an authentic vibe on this tour. You do not feel shuttled around as much as immersed. Gerry jokes about going into what the cruise ships might call the rough parts of Cozumel. Watch out for the cute kid in the minions shirt! He might just be dangerous! Of all the tours, everyone everywhere we went was so warm and welcoming.

Next, we stopped at a place to try some Key Lime Soup. It reminded us of Chicken Noodle Soup. It was good. Nothing that was shocking and would be my one suggestion to change if possible in the tour. It was good! Don't get me wrong. Just for us the other items were eye opening.

We ended the savory food portion by going to a place that specializes in fish dishes. We tried some Ceviche my only time being brave enough and wow it was good! and a whole fried fish. My wife and I were both amazed at how delicious the fish was given we NEVER would have ordered this outside of this tour. Well maybe now we will!

The final stop we went to a delicious Mexican Bakery Panaderia. The smell inside was heavenly. I almost asked them to leave me there. You can pick whichever item you want and both of the ones my wife and I purchased were amazing.

In addition to all listed, Gerry explained various Salsa's, explained to us the purpose of almost every item in a market, and in general gave history and information about the people and locale. He is an expert at what he does and makes the tour even more special.

A couple random points for those going. First, the driver was happy to either let us go from the end of the tour back at La Mega or for 8 take us right back to the port. Second, it was hot. The places do not use air conditioning like most are used to. Surprisingly it didn't really bother me as I enjoyed the experience and food, but dress light and plan accordingly. The air conditioned van was a savior in between trips. Next, the tour was small. I am not sure the size of yours but it likely will be a smaller group and this is amazing for the intimacy it provides. Way better than anything provided on the ship tours. Lastly, try everything! I even tried the fried fin! You will not regret this tour! Such a value for the food, drink, experience, and company!

  • It was an awesome trip. The guide and driver were friendly and knowledgeable. The food was amazing and the variety wasgreat. I loved every minute we were on the tour. Would highly recommend it for anyone.

  • This was one of my most favorite tours I have ever done. Our tour guide Gerry was so great! He is nice, informative, and took us to places I would not have known to go on my own. Cozumel is a very safe place so we were happy to take some of the back roads to
family owned business with exceptional food. I am still dreaming of those fish tacos and the whole fish. You will be missing out if you do not go on this tour. If you like to drink local beer that is an option at most stops instead of non- alcoholic drinks. Thanks Gerry for a wonderful time!!!
