Round-trip transportation from downtown is included on this small-group tour, limited to eight people.

  • Perfect introduction for first-time visitors

Know More about this tour

Cozumel, surrounded by the blue waters of the Caribbean Sea, is as much influenced by the Mayan and Spanish roots of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula as it is the cultures and cuisine of the Caribbean. During this small-group food tour, indulge in the local fare of the island, where youre always within arms reach of something tasty.

Meet your food-savvy guide downtown and board the minivan en route to small, off-the-beaten-path eateries and food stalls. Start with a favorite snack of Mexican empanadas before moving on to tacos stuffed with fish fresh from Cozumels shores. You can wash it down with a cold cerveza.

Visit an open-air market for an introduction to regional produce, spices and other ingredients used in Yucatecan cuisine. After witnessing the bustle of shoppers, your guide stops at a neighborhood family-run restaurant, called a cocina economica, for simple but delicious home-style fare.

Finally, top off your 5-hour food tour with tastes of various sweet pastries at a traditional Mexican bakery. Sip agua fresca a nonalcoholic fresh fruit juice blended with sugar and water or enjoy refreshing cola or lemonade. End with return transport downtown and take delight in just having taken a huge bite out of Cozumel.

  • Excellente!
Our guide, Jerry, whose Spanish name is Geraldo, was knowledgable and personable. The van was immaculate. Carlos was a good driver and attentive to our needs. The 5 food destinations were each wonderful and unique: First, a taqueria, for quesidillas - nopal and cuitlacoche - cactus and a mushroom like delicacy. Both delicious, and neither found in gringo Mexican restaurants. Each of the other destinations was equally unique. My favorite was the mercado, the local market, with fresh caught fish see photo, produce spices. Also the pescadoria, with ceviche, boquinita and local beer not sold in the states. Mucho gracias to Geraldo, Carlos, and Emily.

  • Can't recommend this tour enough! Our tour guide, Gerry, took us to several local restaurants, and we made a stop at the local market. We enjoyed tacos, fresh tortillas, ceviche and other fresh fish, along with delicious beverages at each stop. Our last stop was a bakery where we were able to pick out a couple of items to take with us, since we were completely stuffed from all of the food we'd eaten. Gerry was very knowledgeable about each dish, the restaurants, and everything we asked him. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to see some of Cozumel away from the tourist areas.

  • Highly recommend! Gerry gave us a fantastic tour off the beaten path in Cozumel. One of the highlights of our trip, easily accessible from our cruise ship port, Gerry showed off his beautiful little community full of delicious food, rich culture, and friendly locals. Such a treat - thanks again!!

  • Outstanding! We truly enjoyed this experience. It was a great opportunity to eat local . Our guide was terrific.
    Highly recommend this tour.

  • Well done! it's what we expect from Viator tours. Time goes fast since Mexico has such a rich history with a great variety of foods and unique specialties, so we understand that there is so much to cover it all, not enough time. The choices made by the program tour guide, Gerardo, were wonderful and a great representation of the Mexican cuisine, we loved that they included the local color and atmosphere of the family stands and little restaurants. We loved how the freshness of the foods was well illustrated, including the high quality and true delicious flavors. Looking forward to expansion to many other of those great eating spots... Great experience!

  • We got a VIP tour with Jerry - just him and us and our fabulous driver Juan. We ate and ate and ate. The food was delicious and we got to try new foods we had never heard of and only the locals make. Jerry was a wealth of knowledge not only on the food scene but the local culture as well. You don't really experience a new place until you experience it like a local. This is the second Food tour we have done through Viator will be using again on our next vacation.

  • Very good food and entertaining guide. The addition of a tequila tasting into the tour would bump this to a 5 star experience.

  • This tour topped off our week in Cozumel. Due to an incoming storm, my husband and I were blessed to receive this tour as a private tour from Jerry. He was accommodating, interesting, knowledgeable, and fun to spend the afternoon with. The driver was great as well. The food was marvelous and the selections were varied and culturally on point. We were thrilled to see the real Cozumel, taste the local cuisine, and enjoy the terrific dishes that were prepared with love for us. We would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Cozumel. Particularly those that want to get away from the tourist area near the water. We plan to repeat this tour the next trip we take to beautiful Cozumel.

  • This tour was amazing!

  • We arrived in Cozumel and got a taxi to the listed location, there is no need to get there too early as there is not much to do in the market or nearby area. Our tour guide greeted us and informed us we were the only two on the tour! What a wonderful surprise to get a private tour!

We then began our culinary education of Cozumel! From cactus quesadillas to whole fried fish to a local open produce and meat market tour I can with the utmost enthusiasm that this tour was excellent. All of our questions were answered and the locals as so pleasant to interact with at each location.

We highly recommend Jerry and Luis as your tour guides as they were on time, courteous, drove safely and told us all about the local food culture as well as about themselves. Thank you so much amigos! We will be back with friends in tow for another tour soon!
