Located in the foothills on the southern slopes of the High Atlas in the Province of Ouarzazate, the site of Ait-Ben-Haddou it is considered a great example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture and has been a UNESCO World HeritageIt has been used as a backdrop for many Hollywood films.The citys dramatic edifice and mountain backdrop has graced the big screen in films like Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, Jesus of Nazareth and Babel, and was most recently used as a filming location for HBOs fantasy series Game of Thrones.And was one of the most important fortress bastions on the old routes of the salt caravans.
The kasbah Taourirt is considered a National Heritage. The almighty Lord of the Atlas and his relatives owned properties throughout the south of the country. The kasbah Taourirt was one of them, and what's more, the Glaoui family originated here. What was the town of Taourirt, the kasbah and the ksar (walled Berber town) is integrated into what is now the city of Ouarzazate.

    Ait Ben Haddou es sin duda visita obligada desde Marrakech, una suerte el haber podido pasear y apreciar esta maravilla de kasbahs. El Pueblo de Ait Ben Haddou está al final de un valle que lo surca el rio Asif Ounila y en paralelo la carretera P1506, como una serpiente que se pierde en el horizonte dejando ver paisajes que muestran la belleza y dureza de la gente que lo habita. Se hace fácil el recorrido en un vehículo 4x4 y pasar solamente unos minutos admirando, en la lejanía, pueblos como Taïfaste y ver como las mujeres lavan ropa en el río calentando agua para no helarse las manos. Pueblos Beréberes como el de Ait Ben Ammar donde pudimos apreciar la actividad diaria de sus habitantes.

    Othman el guía fue muy amable y todo el viaje se preocupó de hablarnos sobre los lugares que atravesábamos. La conducción por ciertos caminos no era nada fácil pero él lo conocía y solventaba sin dificultad. El Atlas fue precioso. La noche en Haima en el desierto, con la buenisima cena, con toda la ambientación musical, y ciertos detalles inesperados como una tabla de snowboard para las dunas, fue inigualable. Un gran profesional del turismo, muy recomendable sin duda.

    En este tour de tres días a través del desierto fue una experiencia espectacular, pleno de paisajes originales, historia, cultura, matizado con muy buenos lugares de estancia y sobre todo la calidez de la gente nativa, lo que permitió un muy buen intercambio con nuestros compañeros de travesía de otros países.Totalmente recomendable. Renglón aparte para nuestro guía particular Mohamed (Moha), quién ademas de cumplir con todos los requisitos: puntualidad, educación, don de gentes perfecto manejo del idioma, terminó en este pequeño periplo transformándose en un excelente amigo. Moha, the best.
