This was a very good trip. Unfortunately, cloud cover restricted the view of the Matterhorn, but obviously this was not the fault of the tour operator. Zermat is well worth the visit and the drive there is spectacular. It would have been nice if the coach had stopped at various vantage points on the way to allow viewing and photo opportunities. Our guide gave an excellent commentary during the drive; however, as with most trips like this, most of the passengers are not in their first flush of youth and require information on the location of lavatories which were not mentioned at any time. It would also have been helpful if the coach had stopped on the Italian side of the border to allow passengers to buy food and water for lunch, given the very high prices in Switzerland. There was a stop on the border but on the Swiss side where a surly girl demanded 1 Euro to use the lavatory! I think that when there is cloud cover over the Matterhorn, there really should be an alternative itinerary.
Great trip lovely views well worth the money top notch guide and good driver no issues remember that day for a long time
This is an all-day trip, 2.5-3 hours each way. Some of the views are wonderful. At Zermatt, the guide got everyone tickets (at our additional expense) up the funicular to Sunnegga, a shorter ride and way less expensive than the train to Gornergrat. The view of the Matterhorn was perfect. You can eat at the cafeteria up there while taking in the view. We were worried about bad weather, since the US Weather Channel was calling for rain. It was warmer than their prediction and there was not a cloud in the sky. As our guide said, only check the Switzerland weather forecast!
Well organised, informative guide, this was an excellent excursion. We took the option of the extra trip to Sunnega for better views of the Matterhorn and glaciers which was well worth it - stunning views! Highly recommend this trip.
Fantastic trip. Would recommend it but be aware that Zermatt is quite expensive.
I got to see the Simplon Pass my main reason for taking the trip and some other sublime Alpine scenery during the journey on the crowded bus. But I can't recommend the tour, mostly because of Simona, the guide. She gave us little interesting information along the way and told us little about how to spend the 4 endless hours at Zermatt, and some of the information she did give us about Zermatt was wrong. Thanks to Simona pointing in the wrong direction and thanks to clouds obscuring the distinctive peak, I actually had to ask someone in town where the Matterhorn was. The entrance to the cable cars wasn't marked and was much farther away than our guide said it was. The ugly and insanely expensive town ugly and expensive compared to Italy, that is really offers nothing to see that you couldn't see better elsewhere in the Alps. Then on the way back, in the town where we left the train and re-boarded our bus, Simona walked so quickly ahead of the group that I wasn't sure for a while if she was in front of or behind us. In other words, she didn't bother making sure that everyone was together and knew where to find the bus. There are other sections of the Alps the Berner Oberland, for instance that are much more spectacular than what you will see from Zermatt, and the half dozen other group tours I've been on have all been better than this one.
I didn't know whether to give this trip four stars, but it would have only been because of the weather which seemed a little unfair, so five stars it is... It is a long day but the scenery is stunning and Simona our guide was very informative. The pick up from the hotels took a while, but as mine was outside of Stresa, I was grateful for it. There is a short stop on top of the Simplon pass before going on to Zermatt. You have about three hours to spend in Zermatt as you like. I opted for the funicular trip to Sunegga, which theoretically should give you a great view of the Matterhorn, but low cloud sadly put paid to that. The funicular itself, although expensive, was an interesting experience and an undeniably incredible feat of engineering. I still had time to look around the shops before the journey home, disappointed that I didn't get the views, but I had a worthwhile day nonetheless.
Great trip and excellent tour guide. Very informative.
Zermatt is worth the time if you love mountains.
It was most beautiful, the guide was excellent, the view was breath taking. A most beautiful day.
