Know More about this tour
The tours first stop, St. Dimitrie Basarabov Monastery, is the only Bulgarian example of such a structure carved into a cliff that is still inhabited today, and its atmosphere will fill you with wonder. You will have a little time to explore this beautiful religious monument before we continue to the remarkable medieval settlement of Veliko Tarnovo, which was once the medieval capital of Bulgaria. Prepare to be transported back in time; this gorgeous city has panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valley, as well as ample history for you to explore and absorb, and architecture that will take your breath away. Veliko Tarnovo is home to the magnificent Tsaravets Fortress, the strongest Bulgarian fortification from the Middle Ages. Once home to royalty this ancient stronghold is now a striking tourist attraction standing proudly atop Tsaravets Hill.
Once you have explored Veliko Tarnovo and enjoyed lunch, the tour will continue to its final stop; Arbanasi Village. Nestled on a high plateau between the settlements of Veliko Tarnovo and Gorna Oryahovitsa, Arbanasi Village provides spectacular views and incredible examples of medieval architecture dating back several centuries. We had a wonderful day trip to Ruse. Our guide was Christie and he was a great host, full of interesting information, very helpful and an outgoing personality. Ruse was a lovely little City with the Old Town a real Gem. The eight hour day just flew by.
-
Had an amazing day with the tour guide, small group and lots of story telling on the way. No regrets joining the tour.
-
Great day trip from Bucharest. However it was at least a mile from the center of town back to the fortress.
-
This was an amazing trip, we saw such a lot in one day. The 3 hours in Veliko Tarnovo flew by and we didn't manage to see as much as we would have liked. Manage your time there well! The trip was well organized and the guide very knowledgeable and accommodating to those on the trip. There were a couple of places we stopped that had only the 'Turkish toilets' and there were some steep steps at the rock monastery, in case anybody has mobility problems.

We loved our tour guide Christi ( I hope I spelled his name correctly). He took us to a wonderful restaurant and helped us with ordering specialty dishes common to this area in Bulgaria. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. He answered our questions and was a safe driver. The van/bus was comfortable and he made stops for the passengers to have breaks from the long drive. I highly recommend this trip and this tour guide!!
