Overview

Take a day trip from Edinburgh to the beautiful Scottish highlands and get to know Loch Lomond, Trossachs National Park and Stirling castle. The remote region is home to spectacular natural scenery with picturesque dales, mountains and lochs as well as quaint villages. After visiting the banks of Loch Lomond and exploring the Trossachs National Park, continue to the city of Stirling. Discover Stirling castle on a tour (entrance own expense), and then return to Edinburgh via a stop at the Kelpies.

Know More about this tour

We depart Edinburgh and head for the stunning Kelpies, the world's largest equine sculptures dedicated to the horse-powered heritage of Central Scotland, designed by Andy Scott. They also celebrate the mythological transforming beasts living in our lochs, rivers and streams, who possess the strength and endurance of 100 horses.
Head west through Scotland's central belt towards the ‘Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond’ where we take time at Balmaha to admire views of Ben Lomond. Here, you will have the opportunity to go on a woodland walk that will afford you great views of the loch. Standing on its bank you will understand why Loch Lomond has been immortalised in a world-famous song.
The afternoon is spent exploring Stirling. Take the chance to discover impressive Stirling Castle, one of Scotland’s most important structures both historically and architecturally. Many royals have been crowned at Stirling Castle, including Mary Queen of Scots, and it was central to William Wallace’s fight in the Wars of Independence. Alternatively, explore Stirling, geographically one of the most significant towns in Scottish history, before returning to Edinburgh.

We enjoyed this tour immensely - it was a great way to get out of the city for the day and enjoy the magnificent Scottish countryside. Mark was an exceptional tour guide and driver and made the entire day remarkable. Everything was top notch and we would do it again as well as recommend it to all of our friends! The Kelpies were awe-inspiring, Loch Lomond was gorgeous and Stirling Castle was a magnificent step back in time - we loved it all!

Lovely day trip. Tim, our driver, was very knowledgeable. Except for a small downpour at Loch Lomond, we had a nice day.

Dusty is a great guide with a vast wealth of knowledge about everything Scotland/ Edinburgh and a good sense of humour as well. He has plenty of historical stories and folklore tales about the destinations we go to to keep us engaged/ entertained (alongside his playlist of Scottish music). It rained in the morning on our way to The Kelpies but brightened up when we got to Loch Lomond and eventually super sunny at Stirling Castle. The timing allocation is good and we got back to Edinburgh on time around 5pm but I wish we had a bit more time at Loch Lomond. On the way back Dusty stopped at the 3 bridges as an extra treat which wraps up this tour nicely. His driving is also safe (dont know how he can do that while telling so many stories too!). Thanks for the great experience and keep up the good work Dusty!

Rusty Dusty was an excellent connoisseur of traditional (but entertaining) Scottish music, and he ensured we were well-informed about the history of land and construct alike. He was very funny, telling tales of ancient Scotland with an entertaining flair, but our tour was full of people who had no humor. So make sure that if you see him around, you tell him he’s an adorable funny man—because he is. Also, we were initially supposed to go tour Alnwick Castle, but our bus broke down fifteen minutes before boarding. The folks in the boarding station were kind enough to offer us a different tour of our choice at no extra cost, AND we’re due a full refund for the first tour that got canceled! Since we’d already bought tickets to Alnwick, the only thing we had to pay for was ice cream at Stirling! Even the tours of the castle grounds were free, provided you paid for tickets inside. Overall, super fun. Everything is gorgeous, the history is fascinating, and the guides are most excellent. There are also lots of sheep on the way.
