Our tour starts in La Fortuna at 7:30 am. On the way to Cao Negro you will have the opportunity to learn about numerous agricultural plantations of Costa Rica such as yucca, papaya, pineapple, sugar cane and oranges.

Then we will arrive at the "El Caiman" restaurant, where we will enjoy a welcome drink and snack, before the boat tour on the "Rio Frio" river.

Here we will have 2 hours to see egrets, herons, monkeys, caimans, iguanas, bats and a variety of flora.

An excellent Costa Rican typical meal will be waiting for us, back at El Caiman Restaurant and while we have lunch, we can talk about the unforgettable experiences on the river.

My husband and I had an awesome time on the Caño Negro Day Trip!!! We saw so many animals, including Capuchin, Spider and Howler monkeys. We were really excited to see the rare orange Howlers! We saw three-towed and two-towed sloths, a caiman and tons of birds. Our guide, Steven, was so knowledgeable and took amazing photos of the wildlife for us. Lunch was outstanding! We would highly recommend this day trip!

Our guides Joe and Jorge were exceptional. They were very knowledgeable and friendly and really personalized the experience for us. I highly recommend asking for this team.

We had a wonderful experience with this tour. Joe was our guide. We were picked up from our hotel and drove nearly 2 hours to the Cano Negro. Joe answered questions and educated us on the way. Upon arrival we had a fruit snack, used restroom and boarded the boat. We then went around about 2 hours looking at various animals, birds, plants etc. . . We saw 3 types of monkeys, a sloth, numerous birds, iguanas, & lizards. When finished we returned to the dock, had lunch and then went on one last adventure. There we saw a quick mini version of sugar cane processing. We got to taste coffee, cocoa, & a few other things. This was a great tour worth every dime. Our tour had ages 18-73 on it.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 teens took this tour earlier this month. We were a little worried about making the 2 hour drive from La Fortuna (would the tour be good enough to justify the time?), but it was well worth it! Fauricio was our guide and he did a great job sharing his knowledge on wildlife and ecology as well as discussing the different plantations we saw. The boat ride was great - we saw all 3 kinds of monkeys, birds, the Jesus lizard (bummer- it went on the bushes and didn't run on the water!), bats, and a sloth. Fauricio was a super nice guide who was happy to share his binos with anyone and offered to take photos of everyone at the front of the boat. We saw a sloth just before we got on the boat and he had his telescope and was taking photos for people on their phones. The lunch at the end was very good, and then we had a short ride to visit to a small farm which demonstrated sugar extraction. They also showed us fresh coffee poured in the mesh coffee filter, which you could try or make your own hot chocolate with freshly ground cacao beans. It was a really nice trip and we all were happy we went!

We had a great tour with Fauricio, our guide, and Antonio, our driver. Pick up at our hotel in La Fortuna right on time, and Fauricio made the 2 hour drive there short with a running commentary on the wildlife and ecology of Costa Rica. About a 2.5 hour cruise on the Rio Frio via pontoon boat: we saw caiman, three kinds of monkeys, myriad birds, and assorted insects. Local lunch at the end was top notch, and then a bonus visit to a sugar cane plantation to sample sugar and coffee products. Very fun and a unique way to see the wildlife of Costa Rica. We shared the guide's binoculars but if you have your own, bring them! Recommend this company and this tour!

Geweldige ervaring om vanuit La Fortuna de Caño Negro tour te doen. Onze gids Jorge was geweldig. Pura Vida!! En bedankt Jorge voor de fantastische ervaring!

We had a wonderful boat tour in Caño Negro with our tour guide, Carlos. First, he made the hour and a half ride to the river enjoyable with lots of information about Costa Rica, local food, agriculture, and just culture in general. The boat trip down the Rio Frio was great. We saw a lot of different birds, but the highlight for us was all the different monkeys we saw, including howlers, spiders, and the white headed capuchins. Cesar, a rare red-haired howler monkey, also put on quite a show for us. Tip: be sure to bring some binoculars. After the boat tour we had a really delicious lunch and then drove a short distance to learn about how sugar cane is refined. We also got a taste of local coffee and chocolate from Domingo. What made the trip truly unique and a lot fun was Carlos's excitement when he found a new bird or monkey and got to tell us about them. Even our 16-year-old said he had fun, and that doesn't happen very often. Our family highly recommends this tour.

Company was great about communicating pick up at the hotel. Alvaro was our driver/tour guide. The drive from La Fortuna to Cano Negro river is about 1 and 1/2 hours. I took a nap. As I was sleeping, Alvaro spotted a sloth in the tree. We stopped by the side of the road to watch the sleeping sloth. The closer we got to the reserve, the more birds we were seeing. He was great about pointing them out. When we got to the river, we had a bathroom break, had a little snack of fruit. Little eatery also had beer and soda for purchase. On the river, boat captain was Max. We saw Howler monkeys, including rare orange ones, spider monkeys, lots of birds and a couple more sloths. We spent about 2 hours on the river. After we got back, we had a meal prepared for us and we had lunch. He drove us to a little shed where sugar cane is processed. And then we had a little coffee, chocolate and guaro (alcohol drink) tasing. Alvaro then drove us back to La Fortuna to our hotels. Pick up was appx 7:30 and back to the hotel about 3pm. It was amazing.
