You will be picked up from your hotel in Rome by your English speaking driver with a comfortable full air-conditioned vehicle, then you will make your way to the region of Campania, where you will spend the duration of your day sightseeing. You will begin by exploring the pristinely preserved site of Pompeii, whose ancient ruins were preserved by the volcanic ash that devastated the city in 79AD. Pompeii was an ancient Roman town near modern Naples, where the common people went on holidays at the time of the ancient Rome. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many ancient towns in the surrounding area, was mostly destroyed and buried under 4-6 meters (13-20 feet) of volcanic ash and pumice, in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The excavations are huge, and not every area can be visited. Tours can be organized to enter the excavations for you to see as much as possible.
You will stop for lunch before arriving in the picturesque coastal village of Sorrento, where you will spend your afternoon. You will be returned to your hotel in Rome at the end of the day.
In case you have already visited Pompeii, you can substitute it with Herculaneum. The site is less famous and smaller, but still harbors a wealth of archeological findings, which include stylish mosaics, ancient advertisement and well preserved house complexes.
