This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Kyoto. We knew very little about the history and evolution of sake, and visiting one of its birthplaces was a real treat. Our guide knew everything there was to know about sake, its history, and coached us into understanding the different varieties, and how best they could be paired with food. Highly recommend, whether you're new to sake, or an expert.

Fantastic cultural and educational day coupled with understanding the subtle differences in the world of Sake. Highly recommend this do it…

Very knowledgeable guides, great experience getting to know the whole sake making process, sake types and pairing foods with them

I selected this tour so I could have a deeper understanding on the process and pairing with food. I like to cook with sake, google what types to pair with ingredients, but I didn't know "why" certain pairings worked. I felt enriched after this tour. This was a great way to begin the holiday; the new knowledge came in handy. My partner and I felt more equipped to make selections casually or while dining.

A fantastic tour, well worth the time and money. If you ever wanted to learn about sake -or even if you didn't- I guarantee you will enjoy yourself and learn a lot. Kotaro our guide was excellent. Explanations about the history and process of sake production were interesting and detailed. Sake tasting with food pairing at the end of the tour really helps you develop your understanding and preferences. Five stars all around.

The tour was both engaging and very practically oriented. Combining both a fundamental overview of the industry and understanding the basics of the range of sakes available made me much more confident ordering sake on my own.

Really enjoyable & informative tour guided by Russ, a Welsh rock musician, who provided real insight into the people, the processes for making sake and the end product. We were amazed by the versatility of style of sake making & tried many different types of sake. Thanks Russ. Will be back to you when next in Kyoto! Cathy & Rick (UK)

Excellent tour, our guide Momoko was very knowledgeable (she used to work in a sake brewery then she qualified as a Sake sommelier). We began the guided tour in the Gekkeikan Sake Museum, we tasted the fresh spring water that is so important for sake making as well as tried some of the sakes on offer at the end of the museum tour. We then adjourned to a nearby bar private room where we further sampled sake's with food pairings. The pace and audience engagement was pitch perfect! Highly recommended.
