Know More about this tour

The tour boat M.V. "Blasket Princess" departs from Ventry pier, Dingle, Co. Kerry every day at 13:00 hrs. weather and / or sea conditions permitting. Ventry pier - Ceann Tr - is 4 miles west of Dingle town on the Slea head drive, road R559 and on the Wild Atlantic Way. You can park in the village or 500 meters past the pier at the beach or on the pier.
The tour boat holds a maximum of 40 passengers, but usually less, and has 3 to 4 crew depending on the number of people expected for that day. This consists of the skipper, one crew, one wildlife guide for any questions and one spotter / marine biologist. The first part of the trip takes you out to Dingle Bay and on towards the Great blasket island. The trip passes the seaward side of Dunbeg fort and on past Slea head and Couminole beach and Dunmore Head - the most westerly part of Ireland. We often see harbour porpoises on this part of the trip and sometimes common dolphins and Minke whales off Slea Head. We continue on to the Great blasket island and moor off the island for a while with views of the old deserted village and the beautiful Tr Bn - White Strand. The skipper of the boat lived and fished from the Great blasket island and he will give a brief description or answer any of your questions about this island outpost. The boat continues on to Carraig Fhada to view grey seals in the water or hauled out on the rocks. The Blasket Islands hold the biggest population of grey seals in Ireland.
The itinerary of the boat tour changes every day and like nature itself no two boat tours are the same and the skipper decides in real time where the best place to go is that day with the optimum chance to see wildlife taking into account the weather, sea conditions, sea swell etc and also taking into account passenger comfort and safety. The vessel is licenced by the Dept. of Transport for 44 passengers in total and has all the necessary life jackets, life rafts, safety and communication equipment and crew training.
The second part of the trip usually goes out to the mouth of Dingle Bay between the outer Blasket islands and Skellig Rock where some of the recent Star Wars - The Force Awakens was made. Depending on wildlife distribution and sea conditions the tour may go north past Sybil Head and The Dead Man ( island) or west beyond Tiaracht lighthouse - the most westerly lighthouse in Europe.
Puffins can be seen at Inishvickillaun between April and the end of July / beginning of August when they migrate back to the waters off Canada. At the start of the season April to May, when sea water temperatures are around 12 degrees Celsius, basking shark are plentiful in the area. They are the biggest fish in the North Atlantic and the second biggest in the world after the whale shark.
Of course the biggest highlight of the trip can be the appearance of killer whales or humpbacks but although we often see humpback whales on our trips we can never guarantee sightings.

We had a fantastic boat trip from Ventry to the Blasket islands in September 2022 (full day tour), we spent peaceful 3 hours on the Great island with sheep, seals and beautiful seascapes and then continued our adventure for more 3 hours to see wildlife in Dingle bay. It was an unforgettable experience! We are so greatful to the great team for the wonderful day! We've seen the cloud of gannets, several Minkie's whales, humpback whales, and curious dolphins followed our boat, jumping out of the water! At the end of the day we were really overwhelmed with nature's beauty and might! I really recommend this tour. Just don't forget warm rainproof jackets and waterproof boots, water, snacks, hats. All tour was perfectly scheduled, we had a great time and definitely would repeat next season.

We had a brilliant day out on the water, got to see The Blasket Islands and the seals, and then we were lucky enough to get to see Gannets, Common Dolphins and Minkie Whales feeding. It was a fab day out, my only recommendation is bring snacks cos we were hungry at the end of the 4 hours! Really enjoyable afternoon, fab scenery, dolphins and the bonus of the whales too!

A wonderful day trip which was the highlight of my holiday. I booked the full day excursion. The staff were wonderful and great fun! They did everything they could to make sure we saw wildlife. We saw lots of sea birds, seals, common dolphins including babies which had just been born and a minke whale. Learnt lots about the local islands and wildlife. Will be doing this trip again!

Fabulous trip. The crew were amazing. We were very lucky with the weather. Sean had lots of great information about the scenery and wildlife. Sadly no whales but lots of dolphins including a mother and baby plus beautiful seabirds and a cute seal popping up in the harbour. Great day would definitely recommend thanks team we had a blast

Getting to the dock was easy with the directions. Parking a little harder. Overall uneventful in getting started on the boat. The crew were really looking out for people running late. The scenery was amazing, and we saw loads of sea life - birds, dolphins, and even some land critters. However, for us on 8/6/22 we didn't see but one retreating whale. They did everything they could to find whales, but no luck today. Even so, we were given a great show by the dolphins, and the crew were talkative and showing us several different sites. It was more than worth it even without the whales. The puffins departed the last week of July, but we did get to see a straggler. Overall, I highly recommend this crew, boat, and tour. Very nice time.

I became almost a customer. I booked the trip and paid. And then I got a txt message on my phone saying that my booking is not valid as I booked through a broker they have a dispute. Customer service at the lowest. I booked many tours as I planned my holidays so I had no idea what was it. No information, nothing. Dodgy company. Would stay away from them.

We had a great day with Mick and his mate. First we visited the Blasket Islands (wonderful!). In the afternoon we tried to spot some wildlife. We were so blessed as we saw several humback whales, dolphins and seals. Mick and his colleague did everything they could to make sure we had a fantastic day. They also provided us with interesting information. The communication leading up to this tour was spotless, too. I advise everyone to take the full-day tour with Mick and his team from Marine Eco Tours. It's so worth it! Thank you so much! The children remember this day out as the best day of their Irish holidays.
