We had an amazing time! Bobo really took his time to explain everything to us and let us practice on land until we were comfortable and he felt we were ready for the water. You can tell how passionate he is about surfing and how much he loves teaching others about his sport. He helped the four of us, along with another instructor, the whole time we were in the water which really helped us have a great experience. So much fun! Make sure to grab some refreshing juice after from the nice man who drives along the road near the beach.

I had 4 private lessons with Bobo and it turned out to be the best surfing class I could have imagined. I had some basic surf skills and Bobo helped me to work on improving the basics and brought me to the next level. He explained so many details and very thorough analysis about my practice which helped me a lot to improve day by bay. Compared to other schools he is really able to make you ready for the real deal !!!! I can only recommend to reach out to him (via Whatsapp!)

Bobo’s surf instruction is top notch. He focuses on technique and fundamentals of surfing to enhance progression. He helped me with paddling, footwork, turning and arm placement.

Our two teenage daughters absolutely loved Bobo Surfing!! The guys who gave them lessons were very friendly, knowledgeable and patient. Our girls had zero surfing experience, but Bobo Surfing had them up and catching waves in no time. They were very good about keeping them safe and helping them learn good surfing skills. Our girls had the time of their lives and can't wait to get back out on the waves. Thanks, Bobo!!!!

What an incredible experience!!! My 17 y/o daughter and I could not have had a better teacher! Bobo was patient and his teaching technique comprehensible and logical. Basically Bobo made learning to surf fun, with a strong emphasis on safety. Certainly I highly recommend Bobo and his team.

I usually don’t write reviews. However, I feel like I have to share my experience. Bobo is the real deal. He is a local surfer that has been around forever, knows everyone and is down to earth. He has real world experience from all his travels. He knows the spots better than anyone. It’s also pretty cool that the surf spot is actually named after him. I chose the private classes because my time was limited and I wanted to squeeze as much quality surf time as I could. I appreciated the class not starting very very early. After all, I was on vacation with my non surfing wife. We started on time, warmed up on the beach, went through the basics, studied the waves and talked about the days goals. He supplied the right board for my level and as I progressed through the week, the surfboards I was riding we’re getting smaller. Whenever I felt nervous, anxious or had any doubts, Bobo answered my questions and slowly pushed me passed my comfort zone. I came back from the trip a much better surfer. I have a new perspective on reading the waves and being at the right spot. I can surf bigger better waves and I feel I’m a much safer and confident surfer because of the time I invested with Bobo. My trip was in Sept 2020 and I’m already booked to return Nov 2020. I have no regrets and look forward to working with Bobo to take my surfing to the next level. I recommend him 100%.

BOBO and team are amazing! I am a beginner from Canada hence I always want to practice and get better and the waves and beach of Cabarete are great and clean and I felt very safe. Bobo teaches proper technique and focuses on proper form so that you can get on the board and ride the waves within a 2 hour lesson! He is highly skilled, organized, speaks fluent English and prompt with all email / inquiries. I recommend this surf school when in Cabarete.

My family and I just spend two morning with bob and his team leading to surf in Cabarete. What an amazing experience - bobo’s teaching and method put us all at ease - ages 8 - 46 all had fun and actually surfed. Yoga in motion and the help of Freddy and Tito had us all riding waves shorty after getting in the weather. My girls would like to especially thank Freddy and my son the same for Tito @ they were great in the water and on our second day even some of us(mostly the kids) caught waves on their own. Would highly recommend bobo to learn to surf in Cabarete

I’m really thankful to Bobo and Freddy for a great 7-day surf class! My husband and I have fallen in love with surfing and plan to continue our surf adventure. The price for classes is reasonable and the quality of Bobo’s lessons worths every penny. We emailed Bobo a week before coming to Cabarete and agreed on private lessons for my husband and me. During the week of our classes Bobo stayed in touch with us, and it was easy to contact him in case of any questions. Every morning Bobo checked the weather and chose the best time slots so we could safely practice. We started each lesson on the beach and Bobo explained the theory of what we were about to practice that day. Then we jumped into the water and surfed for two hours. Freddy was in the water during each lesson, even when we began to catch the waves on our own, he helped us if needed. Unfortunately, Freddy didn’t speak English but it wasn’t a big problem because he was responsible for a muscle part of the job. He performed heavy lifting of pushing us into the water, keeping the boards on place when the waves were too strong, and taught us some Spanish :). Bobo did the brain part of the job. During the lesson he corrected our technique, and provided a detailed explanation after the class, and sent a video of us surfing. After the fourth lesson as we became more confident in our surfing skills Bobo provided us with boards so we could practice on our own in the afternoons. It did not cost extra. As the bottom line, after 7 days of lessons two of us - total beginners who have never tried surfing before, could surf in white water without supervision or help, caught waves on our own, began turning and surfing along waves, and had a lot of fun. We didn’t get to the level where we could surf in clean water, though. But others may learn and progress faster than we did. Here are some tips that may be helpful if you consider learning surfing. In comparison to Punta Cana area, surf lessons in Cabarete are much more affordable. Our total expenses were payments to Bobo for classes and tips to Freddy. We got surf boards to practice in the afternoon with no additional cost or time limits. Encuentro beach was great, clean and accessible. You can live close to the beach or take a public bus (guaguas) to get there from Cabarete. The cost for the bus is DOP25 per person. Additionally, we often walked from the beach to Cabarete along the seashore, and it took us about an hour. At the end of the week we surfed without water shoes. Although, the bottom was rough and rocky there it was walkable, and many people surfed without shoes there. The first 3 days of our lessons were not physically challenging. We were surfing close to the shore, and did not paddle much, and Freddy and Bobo helped us in water. However, when we started to catch waves on our own and paddled much more, at the end of a surf day our muscles were exhausted. So, if you have some extra time, I would suggest to get a one full day of rest after your first 3 days of lessons. Next, it is important to apply sunscreen judiciously and on every piece of your body that sticks out of water: eyelids, lips, ears, fingers, wrists. Although, my skin is fine with the sun and gets dark brown tank after a couple of summer weeks, based on my experience, I would suggest using sunscreen with 50 level of protection. Learning surfing takes time, so when you hear people complaining that during their first lesson they were just pushed in the waves by instructors, well, this is part of the learning. I was assisted by Freddy for my first three days. It takes time and effort to catch a wave and often you miss it and need to paddle to get back to the water again. It is exhausting. So, initially, it is really important to be pushed in the waves. By doing so, you'll get a good number of opportunities to practice standing and balancing on the board.
