Joao was a wealth of knowledge, not only about Portuguese wine, but about all things Portugal. Truly enlightening experience and all four of us came away appreciative of the immersive experience.

Our tour guide, Rui, is a friendly, knowledgeable, thoughtful guide! He knows the area well and prepped us for what we were going to see in advance. We got to see things we would never had found on our own, and had an amazing experience. I’d recommend this to anyone who is looking for a tour with a small number of people. 5 stars!

This is an excellent private tour of the Douro Valley. The description is accurate it is the off the beaten path tour. My wife and I were staying in Porto and got picked up from our hotel and driven about 90 minutes in to the Douro valley. We had 3 main stops during the day and a number of short ones for incredible views . Our first main stop was a small town to sample Moscatel, and two wineries. One small family winery and one medium size winery. The lunch at the first winery was incredible and the view of the Douro was spectacular. Also our tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and an excellent driver on very challenging roads. We would definitely recommend and do again.

We decided to do a Douro valley tour last minute after having seen some of the vineyards on a boat tour. We were so happy we did! This was one of our favorite tours on our trip to Porto. Rui was knowledgable, personable, courteous and made us feel welcome like a part of his family. He knew so much about the area and wine making in general. The vineyards we visited were beautiful and being able to see the countryside in this way was a great experience. We highly recommend!

Rui was our guide and he was fantastic!!! He took such good care of us and added great mementoes to our trip. Our first stop and the small winery where we spent time with Nuno - Quinta Da Fonte Mihlo was the highlight of our trip.

What a great way to see the Douro Valley! This car tour takes you well up the river to where the landscape is eye-popping and the wines are terrific. Highlights were (1) tasting at our own private table set up at the edge of the vineyard at a small family winery, (2) a cafe in a small village to taste Medeiros wine, (3) lunch at a cute little restaurant (“My husband made this wine!” said our server), (4) private tasting at a high-end winery, and (5) so many scenic stops for photos. Great marks for Rui’s informative commentary throughout. This tour provided good value for the money.

This was the best part of our trip to Portugal. And it was Rue! Our guide was awesome. Rui was very knowledgeable, respectful, friendly and mindful of our space. He was describing the places and history and land in detail as we drove thru the picturesque landscape. He made sure to stop at places to take good photos and make memories. We had told him we were vegetarians, and he suggested good places to eat with a vegetarian menu. He also took us to a small cafe where we can have the experience of being in the midst of the local community. Rue started off as a guide at 9 am and before we returned, we felt like we were traveling with a friend or family member who took care of all the fine details of the trip and made sure we were comfortable all the way

We had a very good day with Rui. He worked hard to make sure our day was special. We were able to taste wines from small and medium sized producers and even met the wine makers.

So very enjoyable, relaxing, beautiful ride out to Douro Valley, great tastings, Joao was so very nice and very informative.

My husband and I took the Private Off the Beaten Douro Valley Tour with João as our driver/guide for the day. João was great! He was very knowledgeable about the wines produced in the area, the various wineries and the Douro Valley in general. He spoke English exceptionally well and the people at the wineries he took us to also spoke English. João stopped at a scenic overlook so we could take some amazing photos. We stopped at the small village of Provesende where we walked around the village which gave us a glimpse into life in a small rural village. While there we vistited a church built in the 1700's that was amazing. The first winery we visited, Quinta do Cume, was in a beautiful setting. Freddy, the winemaker was really friendly and gave us a tour of the winemaking facility. He was informative and patiently answered all our questions. The wines we sampled there were excellent and were served with delicious bread made daily by the local bread maker and olive oil produced at the Quinta. We had a short stop in the town of Pinhão on the river where we sampled some pink port. We had a delicious lunch at Quinta da Pacheca's Wine House Restaurant. After lunch we had a tasting of their wines and ports outside under the shade of a tree with a beautiful vista. It was a thorouhgly enjoyable day from start to finish. We highly recommend doing a tour with Oporto & Douro Moments. It was totally worth the money and we would do it again.
