Know More about this tour

After your cruise ship docks in Port Chalmers, just outside Dunedin, meet your guide at the dockside to begin your scenic small-group tour of Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula.

Your route takes you above the harbor for views over the peninsula. Enjoy more views on the trip into Dunedin, and make a stop at the historic Dunedin Railway Station in the city center.

Take the road out of Dunedin to the Otago Peninsula, and see signs of the volcanic activity that shaped this region over the millennia. Leaving the paved path, follow tracks toward the coast for views of scenic inlets usually visited by seabirds.

Then stretch your legs on a short walk along one of Dunedin's most beautiful beaches, where the rare New Zealand sea lion can often be seen basking in the sunshine.
Returning to your coach, continue to a lookout over the Otago Peninsula. Admire the views of sea and coast, including Cape Saunders, one of only two landmarks logged by Captain James Cook in the 18th century as he traveled around New Zealand.

From there, travel along the the gravel roads to Portobello, and stop to admire the leafy residential suburb of Dunedin, overlooking the Dunedin Harbor. You will be given several opportunities to get out of the bus and admire the views. This tour takes you to the finest lookouts Dunedine and Otago has to offer.
Then conclude your tour with the return journey weaving in and out of the various harbor side bays as you make your way back to Dunedin city or the cruise port at Port Chalmers.

  • Mark was our tour guide for 16 people, and even though this was our only rainy, cold day in New Zealand, he made the tour entertaining and enjoyable. We started our tour with an overcast sky to see Cape Saunders, and Port Chalmers. Our stop at Otago University was beautiful, and we were amazed at finding out the reasonable price for four years of a college education, 35,000 for 4 years of schooling, and that some students go for free and work to repay government. Our stop at Smalls Beach revealed rugged wind swept beautiful beaches bordered by aromatic yellow flowers and delightful grasses, with mountain views in the distance. We were able to see fur seals on the beach, and let them have their own space, as suggested by our tour guide. The trip back which included the Otogo penisula, was obscured by gray, soupy, rainy weather. There were lots of sheep grazing by the roadsides, and some of the more scenic areas and vistas of beaches and overlooks were unseeable due to weather conditions. I can only imagine, how beautiful they were. I would recommend this tour.

  • Beautiful scenery, knowledgeable guide. Well worth it.

  • Ship did not stop due to fog.

  • Back to Nature small group tour was very good. There was a delay in disembarking from the ship but Chris waited very patiently for every one who booked this tour. We were late in starting but the tour was not compromised because of the delay. We even got some free time to wander round the octagon. Can recommend this tour to anyhow visiting Dunedin.

  • Great value tour Dave our guide was extremely knowledgeable and made our trip very interesting. We had been to Dunedin a few times on the cruise ships and thought we had seen most of the sights. Great wildlife seals, birds, penguins and a small group made this tour very enjoyable and rewarding, we till had time to see all the normal sights as well. Thank you Dave for a great trip will do it again next New Zealand trip.

  • Excellent excursion, friendly, flexible small group. Chris our guide was knowledgeable, and very professional. Loved our encounter with a sea lion on the path leading to the beach.

  • The otaga peninsula was beautiful. Enjoyed the tour. Did not see much wild like other than a few seals.

  • Our guide was articulate and very knowledgeable, we stopped at key points in the area.

  • Our tour guide Theresa made what was an ordinary tour an very interesting one. Her knowledge of the area and its history kept us engaged throughout the trip. Theresa could talk about anything, so it seemed.
