Overview

Combine the majestic heights of Royal Deeside with the epic cliff-top site of Dunnottar Castle.

For almost 150 years, the British royal family have travelled to the River Dee for their holidays.

With almost unlimited cash and resources, why do they always come here?

We think theres an easy answer.

This area encapsulates everything everyone loves about Scotland. You find grand castles enclosed by pine forests. You look up at the highest plateau in Britain in the Cairngorms National Park. And theres enough nearby distilleries to satisfy any royal event.

So, who wouldnt want to escape to the fresh air of this location?

On this tour, we combine her Majestys favourite holiday spot with a trip to Dunnottar Castle, one of the most historically important and visually arresting sights in Scotland.

Hop aboard this tour, see an epic castle, and discover whether you have the same taste as the royals.

Hyggelig

Neil the guide was very informative. The castle was worth a visit and nice to see Royal Deeside in the afternoon.

Day tour with a small group and an excellent guide. Our guide, Doug, knew an awful lot about the area and talked about it very interestingly. Dunnottar castle is definitely worth the visit and so is burn o’ vat. But apart from the specific sights, driving through the mountains is just fantastic. Great tour, I would certainly recommend it.

Doug was a great tour guide. Very knowledgeable in the area and personable. Loved the castle, very cool and will definitely be remember that for my life.

Neil was an excellent guide and clearly enjoys his job. He provided lots of historical and cultural background on Aberdeenshire as well as a few personal stories of encounters with the Royal Family as we drove near Balmoral Castle. Be prepared for a full day’s journey, and a bit of a hike around Dunnottar Castle, but I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to learn more about the rich history of this beautiful part of Scotland.

Really enjoyed this day trip. Dunnottar Castle was so cool. For anyone thinking of going just know that you have to do a ton of steps (500+) and they are not all regular steps. Once you get up to the castle it's like a very mild rock scramble. If you're able to do it though, it's definitely worth it. Really enjoyed lunch in Balmoral...plenty of food options and shops. Same with Braemar for just a quick stop. Really enjoyed all the cute picturesque stops we made. Our guide was Alice and she was fantastic! She was a wealth of information on all the areas we went though and had some great historical facts too.

I was the only guest on this tour. Alice was a fabulous guide with a wealth of knowledge about Scottish history, particularly about this area. We started at picturesque Dunnottar Castle which I had all to myself. Then we continued further afield to the Royal Deeside area. Beautiful scenery everywhere. Just the right amount of time at each stop. I highly recommend this day tour to get a feel for the area surrounding Aberdeen.

Our tour guide Marita made the journey extremely nice despite of the weather. She was attentive, kind and knows everything about the Isle of Skye and surroundings. 100% recommended!

  • 14-Nov-2022

For the price of this tour it was probably the best one I’ve done. The royal Deeside was beautiful and the castle had a very cool/atmospheric (although it did impede the view) fog around it.

It was so good! Better then expected! Thank you so much for the tour Alice! Great van, learned so many things. Thank you so much, would recommend everyone!
