This tour starts at your hotel in Funchal and you will drive with your local guide to Machico village. In 1419, this was the place where Zarco and Teixeira disembarked on the beach and the facts belong to the beginning era of Portuguese discoveries.
Drive through forgotten and old roads until you will get to Portela, the overlooking Eagle Rock (Penha D'Agui) and the “human face”. Enjoy the nice view over the rocks and the coast. Afterwards you will continue visiting a sugar cane/ rum factory in Porta da Cruz. Taste the traditional drink “poncha” and learn about the local production of brandy and “firewater”. By the serpentine your local guide will drive you to the village Santana to visit the traditional tatched houses. Enjoy a delicous lunch during your stay in Santana.
In the afternoon there will be still a visit up to the 3rd highest peak of Madeira. At 1818 meters you will have a 360° view over the surroundings, passing by Ribeiro Frio Village.
