Know More about this tour

Start the day with city tour of Trinidads capital, Port of Spain. Admire the Parliament Buildings, Supreme Court, historic Woodford Square, shopping streets in the citys bustling center and Independence Square, with its Central Bank. A drive through the city brings the tour to the Queens Park Savannah, a 200-acre recreational park lined with exotic trees and interesting colonial style mansions with amazing architectural designs and the newly constructed National Academy of the Performing Arts, similar to the Opera House in Sydney.

Traveling through Maraval, the tour will reach the scenic North Coast Road. From here, one can admire a stunning view of the lush green Paramin Hills to the west and the thick rainforest to the east.

Upon reaching the Caribbean Sea, take in the most spectacular panoramic view of the ocean. A stop at the panoramic Maracas Lookout provides the opportunity for some photos of the surrounding bays. You can taste some delicious local snacks like fresh pineapple chutney or "toolum" made from sugarcane molasses. You simply must try it.

The most popular beach in Trinidad, Maracas Bay, is surrounded by lush green, rainforest-covered mountains, with a sandy beach lined with coconut trees. Take a walk or swim, or just relax by one of the beach shacks. Try a famous Bake and Fish, a hot crispy fish sandwich with homemade bread, at your own expense. There are many different sauces from which you can choose, just beware of the very hot pepper. Basic dressing rooms with changing and toilet facilities and beach chairs are available to use during the 1.5 hour beach time.

Continuing on, pass through the lush green valley of Santa Cruz with its cocoa and coffee plantations. The second half of the tour provides a delightful introduction to the Caroni Bird Sanctuary where avifauna is particularly abundant. The sanctuary is a 48 square mile wetland area on Trinidads western coast, part mangrove swamp and part lagoon. Upon arrival, you'll board a large flat-bottomed boat and slowly travel along the beautiful waterways admiring the unusual landscape and variety of birds, crustaceans and other wildlife. Red, black and white mangroves populate the edges of the waterways, with many tiny oysters clinging to their roots. It is also possible to see non-poisonous snakes in the branches of the trees and caimans or silky anteaters.

Upon arriving in the wide lagoon, the boat becomes your floating vantage-point to witness the protected and brightly colored Scarlet Ibis. The birds feed and nest in this area and every sunset they fly in unison to roost, a spectacular cloud of red against the evening sky. They settle in the mangroves as the sun is setting, the quiet atmosphere of the lagoon adding atmosphere to a memorable trip. You will be dropped back of at your hotel at approximately 7:00pm.

I took the Eco-Cultural Experience. Had a ride around the city main highlights, and then headed to Maracas beach. It's a beautiful beach and had the chance to swim and eat bake and shark. But for me the main highlight of this tour was the Caroni bird sanctuary, it was a beautiful show of the nature! The scarlett ibis are beautiful, and it was impressive see them flying in flocks. Well worth. Janelle was very friendly and helpful, very good driver, we had a nice talk and gave us a good insight of the Trini culture

I booked an airport transfer with them during my recent layover in POS, along with an eco-culture tour combining the city/beach with the Caroni bird sanctuary. I booked directly through their website and was impressed by their professional booking system (most smaller tour companies don't even bother to invest in a professional-looking email address these days and I generally stay away from those one-man shops who communicate through a doggy hotmail/gmail/yahoo address). Both the airport transfer and the tour went great. I thoroughly enjoyed the combo tour with Mr. Mohammed, especially the Caroni - the scarlet iris were spectacular! Highly recommend!

Spent a great day exploring Trinidad with my guide, Zariee. Pickup from the hotel was right on time and she drove me around Port of Spain pointing out some of the highlights. Next was on to Maracas with a stop for local snacks overlooking the bay. The beach was beautiful and the surrounding mountains are spectacular. Had a great lunch and a walk on the beach before continuing on to Caroni via the cocoa and coffee growing valley. Caroni was fantastic, with wonderful wildlife viewing and a beautiful sunset watching the scarlet ibis. This is a great way to get a taste of Trinidad in one day --Thank you, Zariee!

We were spending a week on Tobago and wanted to do a day trip to Trinidad, principally to see the Scarlet Ibis. We flew over on the 20 minute flight in the morning and were met at the airport promptly by Janelle, who was unfailingly friendly and helpful throughout the day. After picking up two other guests, we went to the lookout at Fort George, and had a highlight tour of Port of Spain. Then it was off to Maracas Beach and the food at Richard's Shark and Bake. The weather did not cooperate and we unfortunately did not get to swim. By far the highlight of the day was the boat tour of Caroni swamp, and the chance to see hundreds - thousands - of Scarlet Ibis coming in to roost for the night. The guides on the boat were quick to point out other birds (including rarities like Tropical Screech Owl and Boat billed Heron) and the many boa constrictors in the trees! Then it was back to the airport for the flight home that evening. As a tour company, I can recommend Island Experiences highly. Not only was our tour professional throughout, but I could see them bend over backwards to accommodate our fellow guests who had other tours they wanted to take and attractions they wanted to see. Highly recommended.

Had an excellent guide- Stephan, who picked us up at the airport rather than the normal hotel (pre arranged by us through the tour operator). Showed us the highlights of the Town and instead of Marracas Bay, we wanted to go to Fort George so he did that. Lots of traffic did not faze him and he got us to the Caroni Bird Sanctuary in the nick of time! Well spoken, pleasant and knowledgeable guide and good tour operators who accommodated our personal requests by email and fast communication! The Scarlet Ibis watching was definitely the highlight of our visit to Trinidad!!

Let me just begin with wow! My partner and I had a long layover (~14hrs) in Trinidad and decided we wanted to explore the island a little bit. After some research we decided on booking a tour with Island Experiences and we are so glad we did. We weren't sure exactly what we wanted to do but Dominique sent us a few options including itineraries and prices. After a few back and forth emails (which were all promptly responded to), we decided to the Eco-cultural tour. Our guide, Jenelle, picked us up from the airport and took us into Port of Spain where we began the city tour. Jenelle was very knowledgable, friendly, and organized. She seemed to know just about everything there was to know! Every question we had she had an answer too! After the city tour, we drove to Maracas Beach stopping along the way to take photos and get some Trini snacks at the lookout. At Maracas Beach we had some fantastic Bake and Shark at Richard's Bake and Shark shack! This may have been the top moment for me. We stayed on the beach for about an hour enjoying the sun and surf. Next, we drove to the Caroni Swamp where we received a quick introduction to the birds, animals, and plant life that we were about to experience on our boat tour. We then proceeded to join a larger group for the Caroni Swamp boat tour. Jenelle has a keen eye and was able to spot a lot of wildlife! While I was mainly there for the Scarlet Ibis, there were many other birds and animals to see. Afterwards, Jenelle drove us back to the airport while another team member from Island Experiences brought our luggage to the airport for us. I cannot begin to express how happy I am with our trip to Trinidad. A long and boring layover was completely transformed into a wonderful mini-vacation thanks to Island Experiences! I HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone and a HUGE shoutout to Jenelle for making our trip top-notch. You cannot go wrong with booking with Island Experiences. Thanks for a great tour!

I had a number of emails exchanged with Island Experiences before my arrival. I had hoped as a solo traveler I could join others on a tour but that did not work out so I had to pay a lot more altho they discounted it a bit for me. I was picked up at my hotel and driven to their office so I could pay by credit card. The we drove around the city with my guide pointing out all the highlights. We then went up to Fort George with views of the city and all the way to Venezuela just 6 miles away. Then we went to Maracas Beach and had the famous Shark and Bake for lunch. Final stop was the best highlight of Trinidad and that was to the Caroni Swamp for the sunset boat trip to see the Scarlet Ibis and White Egrets come in by the hundreds. Very spectacular site. It was a really good day.
