  • Our tour guides were wonderful.
The royal mile tour in the morning was very informative. The ghostly underground vaults were interesting but beware they are difficult to walk and it is VERY dark and if you have any asthma problems you may want to rethink this tour

  • The Royal Edinburgh History Experience was great. Sue, our guide, knows very well the history of Edinburgh and UK in general. Really good and interesting!
The Ghostly Underground Vaults History was disappointing. We were expecting a historical tour, but it was completely about silly urban legends about ghosts and that stuff. Good for kids, but not recommended for adults.

  • A great tour and fun for all. The Royal tour gives a lot of good back history and be sure to go through the Palace. It is so worth it. We really enjoyed seeing the palace. The underground is interesting as well. This tour was a good combo.

  • This tour was amazing our guide was terrific highly recommend!!

  • Exceptional. Sue, our tour guide, for the first part, took us from the meeting point at the Mercat Cross down the Royal Mile and into closes and courtyards and by important buildings and gave us stories that made you picture the Edinburgh through the years. As US tourists, the history can be confusing between this and that king and queen and when England was in control and not but Sue really helped put the pieces together. The first part of the tour ends at the bottom by Holyrood Palace and definitely get the tickets to go inside. Well worth it. I do think timing is a little tight between touring the Palace and getting back up to meet for the Underground tour but it is doable. Must also strongly thank Janee who helped me in so many ways. We had a museum we really wanted to see but discovered it was closed except for that day. She rearranged it so we could do the underground later in our visit.
Lizzie was our underground tour guide and again, exceptional performer with lots of knowledge of history and the dark side of Edinburgh. She explained quite well what the conditions were underground so we were prepared and it was sufficiently spooky, dark and uncomfortable but not over the top. Very impressed with Mercat Tours.

  • Our tour guide was phenomenal - she was dramatic and quite easily painted a picture of what it was like to live in the underground. The tales of ghosts sent shivers.
