Overview

In the morning, meet and greet at your hotel.
We will leave Bangkok behind us and drive in the direction of Kanchanaburi. Your destination for today is Elephants World. Elephants World was founded in 2008, as a sanctuary for sick, old, disabled abused, illegal and street elephants, who will receive the rest and joy that they deserve.
You will meet the elephants and have the opportunity to prepare food and feed them. After lunch you will plant food for them, like banana trees and sugar cane. Then its time for the highlight of the tour: take the elephants to the river and bath/scrub them. They will love it! After this great experience its time to say goodbye and go back to Bangkok.

This is a great tour for those who want to be up close and personal with elephants. When we arrived at the gate we were given water bottles and water bottle pouches to wear. When we officially arrived we were greeted by a volunteer who showed us around and offered us tea and coffee. We were then taken to a shaded walkway where we could look at the elephants and wait for the rest of the group to arrive. The tour guides take you in groups of ten for the day. We learned about what foods the elephants like to eat and the history of some of the elephants and where they were before they arrived to Elephant World. The activities during the day included feeding the elephants during snack time, cutting bananas from the banana stalks, making grass cakes to feed the elephants and the highlight, bathing the elephants at the end of the tour which is optional. Our tour guide, Nadia, was great and was very knowledgeable. The lunch that was included was very good and filling
Just some things to note, this is an expensive tour and there was a lot of time just watching the elephants and not really interacting with them, which was a little disappointing. Employees of Elephant World are very friendly and helpful, but some of the volunteers are rude. For the ladies, once you arrive, you need to have your shoulders covered the entire time to respect the animals, which was not mentioned on the Viator tour information. You also need to be covered up if you will be bathing the animals, so no bikinis, and wear shorts and a shirt over your bathing suit. I would recommend bringing water shoes as it's very rocky getting into the water. After bathing the animals towels are provided and you can take a shower in clean stalls. Best for a body rinse not a complete wash, then get a snack before feeding the elephants one more time. Bring bananas if you can to feed the elephants!
