Overview
Kaituna Cascades was the original company to explore and start rafting the Kaituna River, and is still locally owned and operated by two current raft guides - so you know you'll be in great hands!!No where in the world can you raft down such a beautiful river that drops into a vertical walled canyon filled with raftable waterfalls and countless playful rapids. The water is deep and warm (most of the year) and is usually a highlight of peoples visit to NZ. All of our guides are handpicked, highly skilled professionals that come from an extreme whitewater background in Kayaking and Rafting. We will give you the safest and most entertaining trip on the river!

Itinerary:
Join us for the most unique and beautiful whitewater rafting experience in New Zealand! The famous Kaituna River is a rafters dream – a 50 minute action packed ride down 11 epic rapids, 3 wild waterfalls – One of which is the highest rafted waterfall in the world at 7 meters. All of this in a deep, usually warm water jungle canyon! All this with our legendary guides & you’ve got yourself the perfect day out! Our sweet Rafting Base in Okere Falls is in an awesome sunny location, surrounded by a scenic reserve and backs onto the shores of the Kaituna. We are the closest and most accessible company to the river, meaning you get a more relaxed environment to enjoy yourself. The native scenic reserve has a beautiful walking trail which you can view many rapids of the Kaituna River & there is even an amazing café around the corner. This makes for a great half day trip out to this stunning region of Rotorua.

Rafting for our family of 5 down Rangitaiki River was so much fun!!! Highly recommended for families, even in winter! Everyone should go for this white water rafting trip when you are in Rotorua. Even if you are not in Rotorua, please drive in specially to do this. You will not regret it. It was about an hour of rafting, which included exhilarating splashes down rapids, leisurely cruising down flatter parts of the river and skilful manoeuvres around branches and logs. Pete even spiced up the rafting trip with 360-deg turns and more tricks (I shall not reveal too much so I don’t spoil your fun). Never a dull moment, not with Pete’s energy and friendliness, that kept us hyped up throughout the journey. We were initially sceptical of rafting in winter (temperature was 7-10 deg C). But these guys know how to keep us warm! They provided everything - warm fleece jackets (double layered if you need), wet suits, waterproof jacket, life jackets and booties. They even set up nice and clean tents for changing rooms up in the mountains. How thoughtful is that! The guides from Kaituna Cascades, Pete, Ollie, Ethan and Taiki, were so professional and kind. They had skilful guides on canoes to keep us safe. My son accidentally dropped his paddle and Taiki on canoe retrieved it in no time! Pete is literally a child of the river - dishing out interesting facts of the plants, trees, birds and fishes the whole time. He even fed us freshly plucked water cress salad. 😝 Go for it! You are gonna love it.

Another awesome trip, we took 18 staff and had a barbie and volleyball games afterwards. Guides were fun and staff had a blast despite a few being nervous. A few went in but just added to the highlights reel, a lot of first time rafters who are now converts. Great team building exercise

Absolutely!! Loved it .Went there with my family,It was our first time doing river rafting and so nervous before getting into the water cuz none of us knew how to swim and wasn’t feeling that confident enough for it .Trust me every one of their staff member was fantastic ,knowledgeable, experienced, kind and more important supportive during your ride .I specially wanna thanks Eion ( The Irish guy I guess sorry if spelled your name wrong please forgive me if I did ).Thank you so much again for making us so comfortable and cozy .I wish you guys great success and happiness and keep doing the great job.

We spent a couple of hours on the local river and had a great time. Super professionalism filled us with confidence before we tackled the white water. Great guide (Eoin) ensured we had loads of fun whilst fully contributing to the paddle. Thanks for a great, first rafting experience. Would recommend a million times over!
