Know More about this tour

Start your experience with a pickup at your centrally located Budapest hotel, and drive to the Etyek-Buda wine region, about 30 minutes away. Admire the vine-coated hills as you approach the town of Etyek, the hub of this relatively young wine industry that started when German settlers planted vines here around 200 years ago.

Hear about Etyeks famous fresh and crisp white wines, typically grown from pinot gris and sauvignon blanc grapes, and its celebrated sparkling Trley wine. Then, visit Old Wine Hill where nearly 1,000 mostly disused wine cellars sprinkle the slopes. Enjoy the views over the vineyards, public grape presses and villages below as your guide explains more about the local soils and acidities.

Visit small, family-run wineries and sample four wines in each, along with tasty Hungarian snacks. In the morning tour you will get to see two wineries and in the longer afternoon tour you will visit 3 wineries. As you sip, learn local winemaking secrets from your friendly host usually the winery owner and winemaker rolled into one. Discuss each wine with the host and get a truly personal take on each variety youre tasting. Youll leave with a really intimate understanding of the traditions, peoples and countryside that make the wines here so special.

Afterward, enjoy a delicious 2-course dinner at a wine estate. If its summer, dine outside, or if it's winter, sit down at a table inside a cellar. Savor the classic Hungarian dishes and discuss your wine discoveries as you eat, perhaps enjoying some wine (own expense) with your food. See the Itinerary for a sample menu.

Lastly, drive back to Budapest where a hotel drop-off marks the end of your tour.

  • Our day was magical we can’t stop talking about it. Our wonderful guide Julianna picked us up in the most comfortable minivan with the loveliest people from around the world. Three wineries one more different then the next. The food was excellent and wines outstanding. Thank you again Viator

  • This was a fantastic way to finish off our visit to Budapest. The tour guide, Juliana, was very warm and friendly and really knew a lot about the wine history of Hungary. All three of the small wineries that we visited also had friendly and knowledgable hosts and some interesting local, small batch wines to taste very generous servings as well. The dinner provided by the last winery was excellent and all in all it was a wonderful experience.

  • BEST wine tasting tour we’ve ever taken. Juliana, our guide, gave us a great history of the Etyek wine area as well as other wine regions in Hungary on the road to the vineyards. We toured three total, and tasted 4 wines at each, and enjoyed a great home prepared dinner at the last stop. Loved it!

  • The tour was very interesting. Not quite the best wines but was well worth the trip. The dinner was the best part of the tour.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Great wines, lovely hosts and sometimes their lovely dog too ! at each winery, a good sized group of people, and fantastic guide. Thank you Susan!!

  • Great tour! Enjoyed it a lot and if you love wine, especially white wine, you'll enjoy this tour a lot. You get a good understanding of the wine-making process and the history of wine in Hungary. The meal at the end was very filling.

  • Great experience with a small party. Nice to go around peoples houses away from the city. We had a great time.

  • Great trip to 3 wineries and dinner at the third. Learn about the very small independent wineries, sample their wines and enjoy the contryside. Guide was excellent and informative. The wineries were very different than the typical commercial wineries. Enjoyed some very young wine.

  • Ava or Eva, sorry can't remember which was amazing! Very well organized and extremely knowledgeable. I appreciated how she incorporated some brief Hungarian history into the greater fabric of local wine history. It helped to better understand Hungarian wine culture.

The 3 wineries we stopped at were great. Each one distinctly different then the others. However, the highlight was the last winery where we had a delicious home cooked meal. It also helped that the 8 people on the trip got along very well. Personally thought that it made the trip even better.

Ava saved the day when we realized that we left our backpack at the first winery. She did everything she could to retrieve it. Also props to the winery worker who stayed late to get the pack back. She unfortunately missed her bus home.

  • We loved this trip. Learned about and enjoyed Hungarian wines. What is there more to ask?! Our guide was very knowledgable and great company. Totally recommended
