We booked this tour only the day before we went on it.
We received email confirmation straight away, and also we had a phone call to confirm our reservation and that we were to be ready at our hotel by 3pm for a pick up between 3 - 3.30pm.
So far, so good!
Well, we waited at our hotel.... and waited.......
At 415pm, we asked our hotel to call the number on our confirmed reservation details.
Finally at 420pm, the driver turned up with 2 other passengers and there were 4 of us.
I had no problem that our driver did not speak much English and we had a Xmas cd playing on repeat!!! but it did make it a little awkward to find out what was happening.
We arrived at a roadside area with souvenir shops etc.
Our driver instructed us out of the 4wd and ushered us into one of the shops. Before we knew it, we had salesmen trying to wrap us up in headscarves and buy them, and anything else from the shop! We weren't sure if this was what we had signed up for or what???
Next, he ushered to another area and pointed to camels, quad bikes and toilets.
For a brief moment, we thought our sandune rides were on quad bikes???
We 'wasted' time here while our non English speaking, chain smoking driver had some more cigarettes!
Finally, he ushered us back to the 4wd, then we were off onto the dunes.
After several hills and plenty of bumps as expected he stopped for us to take photos. More smoking opportunities for him!
Then back in the car and back to the shops!! As it turned out, this was the pit stop for air in and out of the tyres etc
Next, we were on the freeway heading to 'not quite Sure where??!!'
I must say, the freeway was absolutely full of FWDs all heading the same way!!!
The sun could be seen setting in the distance, and indeed many vehicles had pulled over for photos. ...... not ours!!!
No, we kept flying along, eventually stopping outside 'Falcon Oasis' desert safari camp.
Our driver pointed to camels and a safari camp representative told us they were free and part of the deal, as was henna painting and so on.
Our driver though, ushered us through and directed us to our seating area.
Disappointing, we had totally missed the sunset by the time we arrived and gave the camels a miss due to it already being dark.
The only saving grace was that the food was ok for the service of about 7-800 other people
The was belly dancing and some other entertainment also.
My advice would be to research another option rather than who Viator used Orion safari tours
If our driver had arrived on time, we could have had the expected sunset views, camels etc.
I would not recommend this particular tour company. There are many other hopefully better options. -
Wow soo much fun. I was 1 female with 7 males in 4WD what a talented and skillful driver, incredible how he drove over and down into the dunes. The food and entertainment was brilliant!
