Know More about this tour

Meet your guide at Bab Sba in the late morning to begin your 3-hour food and art tour of Essaouira. This fascinating city often flies under the radar of visitors, and so the streets are filled with authentic cultural delights just waiting to be discovered.

Start with a visit to the oldest pastry shop in the city, and sample traditional Moroccan pastries made with time-honored family recipes. Continue walking onto the city ramparts. These fortifications offer a glimpse into how the old seaport village was once protected against invasion. Stop at an old watchtower, and enjoy panoramic views from a little-known lookout point away from the tourist crowds. Gaze out at the city as your guide points out all the must-see landmarks.

Next, make your way into the center of all the action: the Medina of Essaouira. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed area is an outstanding example of late-18th-century fortifications in Morocco. Wander around the colorful souks and meet local artists to check out their art.

After getting your art fix, head to the bustling seaside fish market, where fishermen haul in their daily catch. Sit side-by-side with locals at a wooden table for a savory lunch of grilled fish (usually sardines, a local favorite). For dessert, head to a shop just outside the medina to try a typical Moroccan treat. Then, wash it down with a cup of aromatic tea at a traditional herbalist's shop.

Your tour ends near Bab Doukkala. Your guide will be happy to give you recommendations on other things to do and see in Essaouira, or offer directions back to your hotel.

Said was an exceptional tour guide: enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and fun. We explored the medina and the ramparts, shopped for our lunch (which was later prepared for us at a local kitchen), and sipped tea as we collected spices to take home with us. Said graciously took extra time with us while our daughters crafted the perfect Instagram photos (sometimes taking them himself) and also helped us find items we were shopping for--at reasonable prices from friendly vendors. We all loved the tour and would do it again in a heartbeat. Said is very good at his job, and we feel lucky to have found him!

Said was a great tour guide. He was fantastic with out 2.5 and 4 year old girls. His English was very strong. I feel like we got a great feel for the Medina in a short time. We spent more time in the Medina in Marrekesh a few days later and felt our experience in Essaouira was legitimate. We cut the tour a little short because the girls had to get back to nap.

We got to tour around Essaouira with Syed who was a fantastic laid back guide. He showed us some of the standard tourist spot like the tower and walls and walked us through the fish market and picked out some pieces that were to become our lunch. He also showed us some of the more out of the way and hidden art galleries that can be found in Essaouira. Really a great tour and a hidden little place for lunch like the locals. Highly recommended.

This tour was a really unique opportunity to spend a day with a local - Said has grown up in Essaouira and everyone in the town seems to be a friend of his! He knows all about the history of Essaouira and wanted us to try only the best local foods around. We visited the ramparts, a beautiful art gallery and we had our lunch in a hidden away kitchen - where the chefs prepare a delicious dish from the ingredients you bring! Said was an excellent guide, he spent the whole day with us and he felt like a good friend of ours by the end of the tour :

Unfortunately, having re-read the description on line this trip was not as advertised and given the reasonable prices of everything locally it seems over priced.
I have to say that the guide Anas was very pleasant and charming but in retrospect seemed to not have been briefed on what the tour was supposed to deliver!
I had issues meeting up with him initially as the meet up instructions printed off on line were not very clear.
It was more of a general walking tour of Essaouira, we went round the ramparts and visited the Mella and the synagogue and had a general amble around the souk and shopping areas.
However there was no meet up with local artists and we did not eat in the fish market, or visit a herbalists shop.
The lunch was a bit underwhelming, I was only offered the choice of sardines or chicken - and ended up having grilled chicken with morroccan salad tomato and onion and bread and some olives in a very local place which was perfectly pleasant but not exactly a ground breaking food experience.

Very interesting, relaxing tour with a natural born guide Said. He showed us the ins and outs of Medina, a.k.a. all the interesting places. He provided us with lots of information about historical and actual facts of Medina Essaouira. We tried local pastries at a cake shop... Our lunch was amazing!! We bought fresh fish from the port, fresh vegetables from the market and ate it at a local place, where they prepared the dish for us. Afterwards we visited the art gallery and saw some beautiful paintings and sculptures... which was worth while. We highly recommend this tour with Said. Facts, history, fun, pictures, food and art!

Really interesting walk around the port and Medina. Said was an excellent guide, explaining the history and culture of the town. He took us to a really nice coffee and cake shop which had a lovely courtyard. We also had an excellent lunch of freshly bought fish from the port and cooked in the back of a shop on the main avenue in the Medina. The tour took approximately 4 hrs at a leisurely pace with plenty of opportunity for photographs. We would highly recommend taking this tour at the beginning of your stay in Essaouira to help you get the feel of the town and the people.
