Know More about this tour

Meet your guide and small group at a nearby location in the morning or afternoon and get ready to discover Tokyo's historic side on this 3.5-hour walking tour of the Yanaka district.

Listen as your local guide introduces you to the history and culture of the area, which was established as a temple town during the Edo period of the 16th through 19th centuries. Stroll down the charming Yanaka-Ginza, a shopping street from the old days where you can stop for some snacks or traditional sweets. Visit the cemetery of Yanaka Reien, which is a popular spot for cherry blossom-viewing. Perhaps, if you visit in the season, you will see some of those blooming pink flowers yourself. Take time to explore the many temples of the area; wander the labyrinthine network of paths, and soak up the ambiance, imagining what it might have been like to have been here back in the Edo days.

Make sure to ask your guide any last questions before saying goodbye, close to the meeting point, 3.5 hours after you set out.

It was super interesting excursion. Hana gave us a lot of secret facts about Japan and culture, showed us a lot of interesting spots. She prepared simple and super useful printed presentation.

We really enjoyed our tour of Yanaka. The area was quiet and quaint. Thanks to Hana for being our tour guide. She took the time to find my one of my daughter's favorites- Taiyaki. Hana was knowledgeable and engaging. We loved the tour!

This was my highlight of my Tokyo Visit. Emiko was kind, caring, super knowledgeable and handled all of my difficult (and perhaps stupid) questions. This is a view into Tokyo that you will not normally get. I loved every minute.

Yoshimi was a wonderful guide and gave me so many insights into Japanese life and culture. It ended up being a private tour, which was lovely. Yanaka is a fascinating section of Tokyo- I’m so glad I booked this tour!

I have been to Tokyo a few times but I saw a side of Tokyo that I never had before. It was a quiet, peaceful, not crowded, artisan filled experience. Masayo our guide was welcoming and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed the winding narrow residential streets and visiting the ginza at the end and eating street food. It was also great exercise with lots of walking to burn off all those calories haha. I would recommend tourists to bring cash with them so they can enjoy the street food. Oh wait, I forgot to add that the tea ceremony was an enjoyable pause on the tour.

My tour guide was very knowledgeable and I very much enjoyed learning about everything that was in Yanaka, given that it is such an old and well preserved area of Tokyo.

I really enjoyed this tour and that came from the fact that my tour guide Atsuko was very knowledgeable about all of the places that we visited. She went above and beyond and really made the tour an awesome experience!

  • 20-Oct-2022

Emiko, my guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the area. She catered the tour to my individual needs and interests while also answering the dozens of questions I threw her way. I would recommend this tour, and specifically request Emiko if you are able to. She is extremely well versed in the Yanaka area and has a lot to share!

Yanaka was very interesting. Quaint village with unique shops, many temples and shrines. Yumi, the guide, did a great job showing me around the city and pointing out interesting places. She was very knowledgeable about the history. It was a great day . Yumi also was so helpful writing out directions back on the train! Great morning.

Yumi was an exceptional guide. I really enjoyed the trip and was indulged in the rich history and culture I saw during the tour. Yumi was extremely knowledgeable and was able to tailor the tour based on my preferences. She was flexible due to my schedule and I would highly recommend her to others. Time well spent!
