Stop At: Le Petit Mitron

Your French baking workshop starts when you arrive at your Parisian bakery and go behind the scenes to become a baker for the morning. Experience the daily life of a Parisian baker as you learn the secrets of perfecting the classic bread that's an integral part of French daily life: the baguette. There are several varieties of baguettes, and during your workshop you'll see just a few of the many different types and styles that exist; there's more to a baguette than meets the eye! The flour will fly while you watch your expert baker demonstrate the proper techniques, from mixing the dough to shaping, scouring and baking. Then you'll get to try it out these techniques yourself! The reward for your hard work comes as you bite into your freshly-baked baguette as soon as it's out of the oven. But that's not all; you'll also discover how the famous French croissant is made from start to finish. It may seem daunting, but don't worry; the baker will help you undertand the process and the secrets behind making perfect croissants. You'll taste a fresh croissant as the class concludes. Over these two hours of fun and discovery, you'll learn all you need to know about baking, how the ingredients play an integral role in the final results, and just what makes French baking so special. You'll also receive the recipes by email afterwards so that you can reproduce everything at home.

    Didier and our French to English translator were great and surely one of our highlights to France. I assumed the kids would love it, but had no idea how good Didier would be about inspiring kids. Both our kids came out of it loving their experience!

    We had an amazing time learning about French baking and pastries. We learned so much about the art of making Baguettes and croissants, not to mention how amazing they tasted. Didier the owner and awesome baker-pastry master made the class not only interesting and information but fun. I highly recommend joining his baking class on your next trip to Paris. My 16yo niece enjoyed the class as much as I did. Everything we tried at his bakery, Le Petit Mitron were absolutely delicious.

    Fun experience going down into a real French bakery and seeing how the make the delicious bread every single day. You will learn the basic techniques of making dough and be able to score and bake baguettes. We also learned how to properly roll croissants and got to taste everything. Plus we left with large loves of baguettes.

    Quite frankly...the whole experience was amazing. From the historical information on the baguette and croissant to the actual learning of the preparation and baking of the bread shared by Master Baker Didier, there was no low point. I'll take it back...the one low point was that the class passed by so fast, we felt like we should have booked a second class. If you are considering this activity, don't hesitate, book it. The baking class has been a highlight of our nearly 10-days in France.

    We had a great time at this baking class. The hosts were warm and friendly and we learned a lot. The baker was a great talent. He took a lot of time to walk us through baguettes and croissants and the process and history behind each.

    I think the class could be organised better, where you could practice making the dough, that's the tricky part and actually shadowing more staff on the day.

    The class started on time and though we went a little overtime, no one was inconvenienced. Loved the interactions with Master Baker Lavry. He engaged everyone in the class, allowed hands-on the dough with his guidance, and he just made the class so much fun. Everything translated into English and all questions were answered. Tasting everything was the cherry on the top. A great value for novice and experienced bakers alike!

    My sister and I taking a holiday in Paris and this was an amazing experience! The chef was lovely as well as his family interpreter and staff. We had a blast and have never eaten such delicious bread and pastry! And took home our baguette which was wonderful on the train!!!
