The time spent with my guide, Jay Sousa was very beneficial. Not only did Jay take me to some great photo places, he gave me a history of the various spots along with providing helpful photo techniques! Very enjoyable.

Step by step: Booking was clear and easy. Even changed the date by phone call. YExplore communicated well and as scheduled. Had a phone consult by our photo guide ahead of our trip. Responsive to our email inquiries to clarify park entry fee would be required but that our entry is accounted for towards the park’s daily limit by the fact that we had this reservation. Phone consult by the guide was very helpful before the trip as it helped me narrow down my camera gear to pack. The guided photo lesson was great as I learned how to use my camera for histogram shooting in Manual mode as opposed to my normal Program or Aperture or Shutter modes. In short, I was taught one on one to balance shutter speed and aperture to capture a good RAW photo. I also learned how to use my gradient and circular polarizing filter. The small charge to have a guest was worth it as my wife also enjoyed the fact that the guide escorted us to prime just-off-the-path spots for best views based on time of day. Kim even showed my wife wife a few new photo tips on the iPhone. Kim taught to my photo skill level and with my equipment considered. A great investment to learn the capabilities of my equipment and a great guide.

I was very pleased with my instructor, Jay Sousa. Jay is a professional photographer and teacher and really knows his stuff. He is a born teacher and excellent at providing instruction on camera settings and why to choose which ones. He was helpful with composition as well. He knows cameras, photography and the best places in Yosemite to capture the best light. On top of this, Jay is a pleasant fellow to spend the day with. I hope to spend another day with Jay in the future

I went on the photo workshop with Jay Sousa. He was excellent - a professional photographer and very easy going. I was nervous about the session but he soon put me at ease and it was very relaxed and enjoyable. I have been reluctant to shoot in manual but after the session, the rest of my holiday photos were shot in this way - this is a massive step up for me! I finally feel a lot more in control of my images. Jay took us to the best locations for the time of day and available light - it was an excellent day!

Our guide, Jay, met us near the Half Dome Village shuttle stop. We walked from there to several scenic locations where the light was appropriate for that time of day photo shooting. After a short exchange Jay was able to key into areas to focus on for our 4 hour session. While walking we chatted about photo composition and exposure. While at the various locations Jay would explain the shot, demonstrate on his camera, then I would compose the shot, exposure, and adjust as necessary to get a great shot. It was great to have Jay reinforce some existing photo practices and correct others; this class is tailored for beginner to expert depending on the individual . Jay is a very knowledgeable photo professional and is also very familiar with Yosemite National Park. My wife attended as an observer and picked Jay’s brain about the park and various hikes we could do during our stay. We timed our visit to go to Lower Yosemite Falls during a full moon for the “moon bow” shot -rainbow at night during a full moon. What an amazing sight.
