Know More about this tour

After meeting your trilingual guide in a centrally located meeting point in Ipanema, you will hop on a local bus to make your way to the base of Vidigal.

Continue by making your way to the trail head and hike through the Atlantic rainforest. Your hike will take about 50 minutes each way and is of medium to high intensity, but you will reach an extraordinary viewpoint of the city and the ocean. Along the way, your guide will discuss the history of the favelas in Rio de Janeiro.

After admiring the breathtaking views of Christ the Redeemer and the city far below, you will make your way back down to a local restaurant for a snack. Here, you can enjoy either a juice or aai tasting.

  • This tour was absolutely incredible. My tour guide Evan was knowledgeable, warm, and very respectful of the local community. The story of the garden project is a wonderful tale of self-sustaining community improvement by locals. Vidigal is not a typical favela - there is considerable gentrification from other foreigners who decided to stay because they, like me, fell in love with the place. You can decide if that's a positive or negative in what you're looking for. The hike is a lot of fun, though I highly recommend shoes with good traction because I did not have those and I found the trail slippery. The view is breathtaking. Honestly, between walking through Vidigal and seeing the city from atop the Dois Irmaos, this tour is a big part of why I didn't want to leave Rio. Highly recommended.
