Know More about this tour

Join a sightseeing tour that examines the paintings and sculptures of one of South America's most celebrated artists. First, visit the Museum of Antioquia, which houses one of the largest collections of Botero paintings in the world. Discover the unique style of Fernando Botero, whose work is known for its unusual inflation and disproportion of body parts. His exaggeration of human and animal figures is intended to inspire humor, irony and criticism. Tour through the museum with your guide and be amazed at the collection of 108 Botero paintings, as well as other pieces of work on exhibition.

After visiting the museum, take to the streets of Medelln and continue your guided art tour. The city is covered with more than 90 Botero sculptures, estimated to be worth more than USD $120 million. Visit the Plaza de las Esculturas and the Parque berrio, where Botero avidly donated a handful of sculptures on the condition that they were to be placed outside where people could see and touch them.

Continue on to Parque San Antonio and see the Pjaro de Paz (Bird of Peace) sculpture that was ironically blown up by a suspected FARC bomb in 1995, killing a dozen innocent civilians. Defiantly, Botero created an identical sculpture and placed it alongside the original.

This trip and our guide was extremely informative. We walked through downtown Medellin across to Botero plaza and the museum, seeing and learning about things along the way. One thing worth noting is that this is not an art tour. We thought it would be Botero-specific, but while we did learn a LOT about Medellin and throroughly enjoyed our trip, once we got to the museum our guide did not know much about art and Botero's career. Still an amazing tour, but it might be worth updating the description or name perhaps Medellin walking tour including museum visit.

The tour was very interesting, especially enjoyed Plaza Botero where many of Botero's sculputure are. Museo de Antioquia is very worth the visit and you can enjoy more of Botero's work.

Fernando Botero, arguably one of South America's best artists, has a heavy influence on the city of Medellin. Traveling to Medellin, I wanted to learn more about Botero, his life and his work. This tour was exactly that - small-group, personalized and with a very knowledgeable guide. The museum is well worth the visit and consists of three floors full of artwork. Overall, a great and relaxing day out.

Fun, informational tour! It was small-group too which gave it a more personal touch. Guide was knowledgeable which made it worth the money spent! I learned a lot more than I could have by just seeing the sights on my own.
