Know More about this tour

Book your selected tour and, on the day, meet your guide in the early evening at the Piazza della signoria in central Florence.

Admire the plain 14th-century faade of the fortress-palace, and hear how it was the hub of Florentine civic power for centuries, and is still home to the city council.

As you admire the exterior, take in the crenelated battlements and 311-foot (95-meter) Arnolfo Tower, the clock tower that is Florences second highest viewpoint after Bruneschellis Dome.

Enter the palace with your guide and explore it opulent interiors. As you walk, learn how the building became home to Florences first Medici ruler, Cosimo I, in 1540, and how the Medicis went on to rule the city for centuries, acting as patrons of the arts.

Ogle the courtyard by Michelozzo and see the main chambers, halls and boardrooms filled with Renaissance paintings, frescoes and statues by greats including Michelangelo, Donatello and Giorgio Vasari.

Marvel at the showpiece Hall of the Five Hundred, with its Vasari battle frescoes, and view other highlights, including the study of Francesco I Medici and chambers of Cosimos wife, Eleonora of Toledo.

As dusk takes hold, climb to the rooftop for a guided walk around the battlements 130 feet (40 meters) above the square. Gaze at the sunset-washed city, and if you wish, climb the Arnolfo Tower for even more spectacular views.

After approximately 1.5 hours, your guide will depart, ending your tour and leaving you to continue exploring and leave as you wish.

Upgrade to either option, and after your tour, walk to a traditional restaurant on Piazza della signoria. Kein Guid zu sehen, haben uns selbst die Eintrittskarten besorgt. Wo war der Sonnenuntergang und das Glas Wein? Sehr schlecht und dafür teuer. Ich hätte gern das Geld zurück! Angelika Wegner

This was a great unexpected tour. This tour was booked through our travel agent, and it was very nice! We were not sure what to expect, but we were all pleasantly surprised. We had a great tour guide that took us through Palazzo Vecchio and the Arnolfo Tower. Very knowledgeable and there were only 6 of us on the tour. After the tour, 4 of us had opted for the dinner, and we had a lovely 4 course Italian dinner in Palazzo Vecchio. Would recommend this tour to anyone who goes to Florence!

Our guide Fabio vas excellent, very passioned, with great knowledge and willing to share smallest bit of his passion with us... Unfortunately due to early leaving I couldn`t attend aperitivo, but the restaraunt looked nice from the top of Arnolfo Tower.. But - you should understand, that Palazzo Vecchio and Tower is in one building, the restaurant is much shorter and there no sunset view - but instead, beautiful evening Firence view :) So I do recommend this attraction for travellers, who do not rush to the train in the evening..

This tour was a bust. Guide showed up nearly a half-hour late, and used the larger group's valuable time giving repeated instructions to the 2 or 3 people who'd signed up for the optional dinner. Result was that we were rushed throughout, and there was almost no time for us to ask questions. Guide repeated the same generalities over and over, and didn't include things I would've expected, such as the exploration for hidden frescoes in the great hall.

The tour begins in the Palazzo's courtyard with a history of the architecture styles and the history of Florence. From there, you make your way through the political history of Florence and its leaders and the rooms where important decisions are made. As you climb higher, you learn about Florence's rivalries with Siena and Pisa. You can also decide for yourself if Dan Brown's depictions in Inferno are accurate. The guide is thorough and happy to answer any and all questions. She took us around the first level of the tower to point out things that we could see from this particular vantage point and only left us when she was sure that we had all of our questions answered. We were able to spend another 30-45 minutes appreciating the view and climbing higher to see more of Florence. Excellent tour. We did not book the dinner option so I cannot comment on that.

Our tour guide was both difficult to understand and did not share the dramatic and exciting history of the rise to power of the Medici's in a way that was captivating. Her knowledge of the art was very good, however.
