I am one of the few Americans who has actually seen Bollywood movies, so I wanted to go on this tour and I have no regrets. Some people who have never watched a Bollywood movie may find it boring, but for those of us who have, it's great

I had a fantastic Bollywood Tours with dance 7-8 hour day with awesome tour guide Rahul, and quiet, safe driver, Vinod. Rahul took great care of me as a solo visitor, He was very personable, friendly spoke English well, and explained a lot of things that helped me understand the bigger Bollywood scene, since he has grown up in the nearby slums (where he also does tours) and organizes an educational program for students. Beware —there are very little safety precautions in visiting the studio properties. India safety standards are definitely not up to our western/American safety codes just be VERY careful where you step around the studio lots — and be prepared that behind-the-scenes sets to be fairly trashy with lots of wiring, garbage and construction materials lying around, stairways and walkways in disrepair, even precarious. Also, best to specify schedule we did not stop for lunch, but I was fine with that. But hey— this is India— and that’s generally true of most places in India. Though thankfully, I’m seeing signs of improvement lately to safe and clean standards And this is the REAL Bollywood, with real filming going on in the world’s, most productive film industry, which has many other film locations throughout India from what I’m learning. So even their biggest best film studio is not nearly up to our Hollywood construction standards But the cool part is the spirit of the workers, actors dancers and all, is what makes Bollywood great. They just get a lot of workers around for the actusl filming to clean everything up and create the whole filming magic. Our first studio visit was as I mentioned, fairly messy, no filming going on, and only a few manual laborers up on the property, mostly taking naps since it was noon time But it was a nice intro to the filming industry . It had plenty of small staging areas Rahul gave good explanations as to the types of filming done for each area of the property. In one big meadow area , he gave me a link to a big, huge Bollywood dance scene that was filmed there. To my delight he showed me the “hospital” since I have many doctors in my family and since there was no one else in the building, I was free to take funny pictures, posing as an emergency room patient (my husband specialty) Payments were made midway through the tour(!?) which Rahul says is standard practice here. Then we drove to the main Bollywood property and joined a group bus tour. I was the only non-Indian among the 40 tourists in our group, so Rahul translated, for me Driving through the property, the local Indians knew a lot more of the famous movies and actors, and latest popular TV shows that were being filmed behind the walls Since I’m not as familiar with them, it was a bit less exciting just to see the buildings around the big outdoor filming property. But as promised, we did get to see some live filming with about 100 film crew at the scene The timing was awesome because the scene was a man getting off his motorcycle kneeling down, shooting a pistol at another actor, and the shooter falling over from the repercussion Awesome!!! ( though the recent Hollywood tragedy of a real crew person being accidentally shot dead by actor Alec Baldwin during filming made it a bit unnerving for me,— goes to show that our American standards of safety are not foolproof either!!) Though I was slightly unnerved by the realistic pistol bang, I was pretty sure it was safe since they do a ton of similar filming here. The second live scene was of a couple driving a motorcycle down the same street — One videographer sat in the back of a truck a second videographer sat on the back of a motorcycle filming from the front as the motorcycle Two quick scenes , but it was the real deal of Bollywood filming Like all my India experiences, the real people are the best part of this awesome visit To cap off the tour of the physical property Our group was ushered into a palatial studio for three great shows of Bollywood’s best. One was a tech show with music for the artist and green screen demos. The second was a mixed media show off of Bollywood highlights and history, — a stupendous live performance by apparently famous comedian, a celebrity dancer choreographer(with a vibrant young dance team) and a stupendous vocalist It was amazing that despite our small audience in this off-season the performers gave us a powerful stellar show. That was the power punch of the whole day, showing as Bollywood magic at its best The day was well worth the US$130 I paid Tip: Our trip did not include lunch, and I was a bit fuzzy on the schedule so best to clarify that with your tour But I highly recommend Rahul for tourguide he will take great care of you! Seeing Bollywood was my dream come true since I first visited Mumbai eight years ago.

Promised lunch. No lunch. Promised to see live filming of a series and everyone was out to lunch at the moment and we never returned. Then we were sent off into Mumbai traffic. Spent all day in car to and from hotel. Saw dark empty rooms. Very disappointed. Expensive. Ruined our day. Would not recommend to anyone. Zero stars if possible.

My guide was amiable, engaging and seemed knowledgeable. The studios were unimpressive and my experience left me wanting something more. Overpriced and over promised.

It was really fun to go through the studio and walk on some of the sets. With how laid back they were I got the feeling that this studio was a smaller studio that was still trying to get some attention. Nevertheless it was fun. They took us into a recording booth and had us sing karaoke. The dance was fun though much different than I was expecting. It felt very mom and pop, way different then going on studio tours in the states. It was a lot of fun and I'm really glad we went. They also took us to a yummy restaurant across the street from the studio after. A lot of this tour is driving in Mumbai traffic, about 1.5 hours each way (we were staying in colaba). Started at 10 am and got back around 4 pm.

During my first stay in Mumbai this was one of 2 very carefully selected tours, and it was GREAT! Again a very good guide - thank you again Gurmeet, for all the information, kindness, and assistance provided! :-) Thank you to my driver Sunjay as well! We visited 2 famous and currently very active Bollywood studios, both located in Andheri East: 1. S.J. Studio and Entertainment, and 2. Chandivali Studio. We spent more time at S.J. Studio, the modern one (opened in 2000) of the two, but it certainly was worth it!: I had an overview of all the available sets, different halls, dubbing room, was introduced in the studio's history, enjoyed a few traditional and a modern dance performances, had a couple of video presentations, and - I even managed to pose for souvenir snapshot with Krishna Kaul during the live shooting of one of his TV series. Chandivali is one of the oldest remaining studios (82 y. old) with a rich history: many different sets there too, along with the most exquisite garden, attending even two live shootings there (the second one was the series from Bhuvan Bam)! I got a chance to attend the live shootings being performed at the time of my visit at both of the studios, S.J. Studios and Chandivali Studio, and was also given a chance to interact with at least one actor on the set! There were also others, like: Reyhnaa Pandit, Aparna Mishra , Kumkum Bhagya, Bhuvan Bam, and others.

My Bollywood tour was not only great fun and very interesting but the tour guide made all the difference. Lawrence dSousa was a delight. He was knowledgeable, friendly, professional and patient. My group of 4 took to him the minute we met him and spent a lovely day enjoying his company as much at the the tour itself. I would have no hesitation in recommending him and would be delighted to specifically ask for him should I take the tour again.

Lawrence (our guide) and Akshay (our driver) were wonderful hosts for our day getting to know the history and operations of Bollywood. We had no shortage of questions and curiosities, and Lawrence was able to answer them all - it is clear he is extremely knowledgeable on the topic. We were also very appreciative that Akshay knew the right shortcuts to take to avoid traffic and save enough time for a quick walk through Bandstand, Castella de Aguada, and a quick stop to grab ice cream, before headed home. Being from Los Angeles (Hollywood) ourselves, we enjoyed the contrast to production approaches and are leaving with a great appreciation for the industry and culture of Bollywood. We look forward to watching some of the movies we were recommended throughout the day!

I recently booked a trip with Bollywood Tours as I had a spare day for sightseeing. I opted for the Full-Day Private Bollywood Tour with Meal. I was met by Akshay (driver) and Lawrence (guide) at my hotel at the time requested. They both were really friendly, welcoming, set expectations for the tour as you never know how Mumbai traffic is going to be. They had a great sense of humour and always ensured they played the best songs during the car drives. Lawrence was an amazing guide, enthusiastic, passionate about his work, exceedingly knowledgeable about the places visited. Learnt a lot from him about the studios/filming, the amount of people involved, behind the scenes sneak previews and surroundings. The meal at the restaurant was really good. Lawrence made the tour insightful, entertaining and enjoyable. Would really recommend him for future tours. Thank you Lawrence and Akshay for an amazing tour. Will be recommending you both to friends, colleagues and booking another tour with you both again when I’m next in Mumbai. Would rate them both 5/5.
