Know More about this tour

Regarded as the highest mountain in Thailand with 8,514 feet above sea level, Doi Inthanon offers beautiful scenery, evergreen forests, dwarf rhododendron groves and many types of habitat. The area is also popular for bird-watching; being home to nearly 400 bird species, many from North Asia, including mountain hawks and Eurasian woodcocks.

The tour starts with enjoying mountainous scenery on the way up to the National Park and preserved forest that runs all the way to the peak of the mountain and offers a very cool climate all year round. The Air Force Radar Station as well as King Inthawichayanon’s stupa is located, commemorating the last king of Chiang Mai. It is known that he was concerned about the importance of forests and wanted to preserve the forests for future generations. Being attached to the area that he asked that part of his ashes be kept here and still bear a special place for the local community that live around the mountain.

Continue to visit Phra Mahathat Napha Methanidon and Phra Mahathat Naphaphon Phumisiri, twin pagodas were built to commemorate the fifth cycle birthdays of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. Both pagodas share the similar bases as well as a two-level walking path that surrounds them. The pagodas enshrine Lord Buddha’s ashes and Buddha images, and overlook the magnificent scenery of Doi Inthanon. Then continue to visit Karen hill tribe village and the Royal Project, where lunch will be served. Enjoy a short walk to visit Wachirathan Waterfall before we head back to Chiang Mai. If time permits, we stop a local hill tribe village and a temple, containing holy relics in the small town of Chom Thong. We expect to be back at your hotel at around 5pm.

  • Dear Viator,

We have used your company for several tours over the years and have been very happy with your company. We were extremely disappointed in the Full-day tour to Doi Inthanon from Chiang Mai. Here are reasons why:
Our tour guide did not speak English well. We had a really difficult time understanding him. He gave us some information in the beginning of the trip, but after that point, we were provided very little information during the entire tour. We had to ask him questions to get any information out of him.
Your website stated that we would also visit the Karen hill tribe village, which we were excited to see the people in their traditional clothes as shown on your website. However, when we stopped at the Karen hill village, we saw very few people. 4 out of the 5 people we saw were in western clothes. There was only one elderly lady we saw that wore traditional clothing. She was weaving on the second floor of her home.
Our guide assured us that our lunch will consist of traditional Northern Thai foods. During our lunch stop, we were provided very bad cafeteria food. The food was not edible and we did not eat lunch. Our guide felt bad and during our stop at Wachirathan waterfall, he paid for our lunch.

Overall, this has been the worst tour we had experienced with Viator. We hope that our input will help your company improve future tours for your customers.

    Sincerely,

    Bill and Lee

  • AWESOME private tour! We got to see some great sites in a short period of time. Our tour guide, Amorn, went above and beyond to make sure the tour was a success! She spoke very good English and was extremely accommodating for me, my wife, and 1-year old son. I would highly recommend this tour!!!

  • This was a private tour which we hadn't originally realized but it was wonderful to be able to go at our own pace. The views were beautiful with amazing temples, botanical gardens and the waterfall. Amorn sp? was our tour guide and she was very knowledgeable. She even looked up which Buddha position represented the day each of us had been born on. We got to see the Karen Village which was very interesting to see how different they lived. The restaurant she took us to on the mountain also had very good food and she gave us several options to choose from. The one downfall of the tour and the reason it is only 4 stars is that on our way back to the hotel our tour guide took us on an extra stop to a gem factory. As soon as we walked in it immediately felt like a scam. They followed us around and wouldn't let us just look at what we wanted to. They also sold ivory items which was very upsetting to me. If she had just stuck to the tour and didn't bring us to this shady store it would have been a 5 star tour.

  • Brilliant day visiting Thailand's highest peak. This was a private tour so just the two of us and our driver and guide. The guide was excellent and was very knowledgeable and told us lots of information. It was unfortunately a rainy day but still beautiful nonetheless. Lunch was very good. Myself and partner loved this trip.
