Know More about this tour

When visiting Hanoi, you won't want to miss Halong Bay, where a lot more than the famous limestone island formations await you.

After pick-up at your hotel in Old Quater at 08 am, the bus ride through the Red River Delta is a great opportunity to see what daily life is like for Vietnamese farmers. Rice fields and water buffalo flank both sides of the road. The most interesting glimpses into rural life come during February and June, when whole families are busy transplanting the young rice plants to the growing fields.

Arrive in Halong City tourist wharf around 12:00. Here you'll board a Traditional Wooden Junk and head into the bay. A fresh seafood lunch (Vegetarian available if requested) is served on the way out.

The limestone bedrock and sheer cliffs of the countless islets have inspired local people to come up with equally fanciful names: Stone Dogs Island, Duck Island, Finger Island, Incense Burner Island, and Fighting Cocks Island, the symbol of Halong Bay.

You will then head on to Thien Cung (Heavenly Palace Grotto), a magnificent and otherworldly caves. Explore their huge chambers adorned with stalactites and stalagmites of all kinds.

Finally, enjoy 45-minutes of Kayaking or Bamboo boat around the islands and water tunnels and bask in the charm of this natural paradise.

Around 4:30 pm you will be brought back to the Halong tourist wharf, where your vehicle is waiting to take you back to Hanoi.
The trip ends at your hotel around 08 pm.

  • Halong Bay is absolutely beautiful and this tour was outstanding. Only disappointing part was overcast and rainy weather but it cleared enough for us to see all the islands. Long bus ride 4 hours but well worth it. The cave was cool. Lunch on the boat was very good. Tour guide David was amusing and provided lots of good cultural and historical information. Highly recommended, you must see Halong Bay when visiting Vietnam.

  • We were very pleased with this day trip. The bus had wi-fi and was comfortable for the 3.5 each way journey and included a rest stop. We also required vegetarian meals and the crew provided us ample food and kept asking if we needed more food-I think they were concerned since we did not have fish or meat. We were happy with the meal they provided and were stuffed! all in all-a good day trip from Hanoi!

  • Really good. Would have like to swim though, but there was no opportunity. Also got food poisoning/diarrea, but cannot really say whether I got it from lunch served on the cruise or elsewhere.

    Anyway, good trip!

  • My husband, son and I recently booked a trip to Halong Bay from Hanoi through Viator with Charming Tours. We had a great day. It was long, as expected, but well worth making the effort. We chose the small group tour which included hotel pick-up and drop-off. The mini-bus accommodated approximately 16 to 18 people.

We drove for about 2 hours until we stopped at a retail unit which sells paintings, souvenirs, lacquer work, snacks etc. as well as toilet facilities. This centre was, I understand, established by the Vietnamese Authorities as an outlet for disabled people to produce and sell artwork, needlework etc.

After about 20 minutes, , we continued to Halong Bay, boarded the boat and had lunch. Lunch was quite nice and there was plenty.

Shortly afterwards, we docked and visited a cave network which was impressive. Following photo opportunities, we got back on the boat for a short while until we reached the area where people could either for a short trip on a flat boat or a kayak. On return, we got back on the boat and returned to the port building to return to Hanoi, stopping off for 15 minutes at another retail centre with facilities en route.

Our guide was Thiang I hope I have the correct spelling and he was great. He spoke good English and was easy to understand. He was very pleasant, informative, interesting and obliging. He was ready, willing and able to answer questions and was very professional. He took photos for everybody, gave us an insight into day to day life for the Vietnamese people and he even had anti-bacterial gel at hand for anybody who wanted it.

All in all, it was a tiring but enjoyable day and an opportunity to fit in a visit to Halong even if your time in Hanoi is limited. Thiang told us that his company also offer 2 day tours including overnight stays in Halong among other tour types.

  • Our tour guide Cong was very energetic and pleasant to be around, he was funny and very informative. The trip was long, but the view was well worth it in the end. We had a lovely time on the bay. Definitely a good trip to book if you are short of time in Hanoi.

  • Our guide was very informative. But it is a long drive, 8 hours for a 3 hour boat tour. Our boat was delayed by one hour. The areas visited a very crowded so expect to fight for room to take a picture. Overall, I would skip this trip.

  • Took the small group tour. Bus was comfortable and quick pick up. The guide, Son, was friendly and took care of everyone and was chatty. Good time to catch up on sleep on the way there and back and there is WiFi on the bus too. Lunch was on the boat, kaya/bamboo boat and cave visit. Excellent!

  • We were warned by several people not to do a full day tour to Halong Bay since it takes so long to get there however, we had to schedule a one day only tour due to our limited time in Hanoi. We were picked up at 8am from our hotel and started on the 4 hour journey to the bay. The ride was incredibly uncomfortable. A packed bus and horrible roads which in fairness to the guide, and driver, we were warned about. Lots of bumps in the road that literally had you flying out of your seat. We finally got to the bay and got on a boat for lunch, which was average at best. Then we took a paddle boat out to tour the islands for about 45 minutes. We then got back on the boat for the ride to the caves. Spent about 20 minutes there. Then back to the boats for about 30 minutes before our 4 hour ride home. I would not recommend this tour. I think you should consider doing an overnight tour if you want to explore the bay.

  • The cave was spell-binding, and the limestone cliffs majestic! Our guide was also very nice and friendly. The only thing I would recommend is to cut the kayaking part for this tour especially for those who only want to see the cave, so people can head back to Hanoi and spend more time in the city. We can save more time specially since we're talking of 8 hours land trip back and forth. This can be long, tiring and boring. But overall, Halong Bay is a must-see.

  • Highly recommend this tour of Halong Bay Islands and cave tour which highlighted incredible scenery. We even had a mild storm on our way back which added magic to the experience!
