What a great day. When you pay for a tour for the entire day, you hope to be taken care of -- and were impressed beyond our expectation of how the day went. From our tour guide, Mata, and all his great info along the way, to the comfortable minibus, to arriving to Hobbiton early and his ability to get us on an earlier tour... to the amazing details and details of Hobbiton (which is done by a seperate specific "Hobbiton" guide - but was just as wonderful). We weren't sure how our buffet lunch would be (as that can go either way), but we were quite impressed as the food and choices were great. We made a seemless switch to a new guide (Billy) for the second part of our day, who got us to our tour of the Te Puia and the geysers, kiwi birds, amazing crafts - and then drove us to some other wonderful local sites. I could not recommend FlexiToursNZ more highly. They went ABOVE and BEYOND what was expected, the personal touch and communication was beyond belief. If you want to be taken care of and see the sights of Auckland... this trip was worth every dollar spent.

This tour was the highlight of our NZ trip, Andy was a great driver/guide and made the long drive feel quick and enjoyable. Glad we chose this experience!

Very good tour and they also picked up/dropped my uncle off from home, wich was a bonus. My uncle enjoyed the tour and it was a good experience for him. I'll definitely book with Flexitours next time when my family come to NZ. Carolina

We had a wonderful experience taking the FlexiTours trip to Hobbiton from Auckland. Phillipa made the booking process easy. We were assured that even if there were only the two of us, the tour would run. (The first company we booked with cancelled us due to not having sufficient bookings to run the tour). It was great to be picked up and returned to our accommodation. Fran, our driver, was lovely and provided a lot of interesting information about NZ on the way to Hobbiton. The tour of Hobbiton exceeded our expectations and was very well organised. It was handy to have a tour that started later in the morning. High recommend FlexiTours and visiting Hobbiton.

I cannot Thank enough to Phillipa who organised such a wonderful trip for me from Auckland to Queenstown.

I took the afternoon trip. The day was wonderful, the pick up from our location was a great idea, no need to find parking or come into the city. Our driver kept us entertained by pointing out local landmarks and areas, and also kept us advised of how long it would be until we got to Hobbiton. The drive home was equally good.

What a wonderful tour - really, everything you want: a nice early start to get to Hobbiton before the big crowds arrive, terrific lunch at Te Puia and LOTS to do and see there: the thermal pools and geysers, Maori crafts institute, and don’t miss seeing live kiwi birds! Well organized tour, and if you can, go with driver/guide Darryl, who is super knowledgeable, good natured, patient, and can tell you which side of the Hobbiton bus to sit on to get the best view coming into the movie set! Thanks so much for a great day!

Decided to do a Hobbiton and Rotorua tour from Auckland with FlexiToursNZ. Our tour began very early in the morning. We were greeted by our driver Vic and he immediately let us know how many additional stops we would be making along the way. He was so delightful. Greeted everyone with the same enthusiasm and asked where everyone was from. Once we got along the way he gave some history about the city and some really nice personal stories about New Zealand. Most of us were from another country so we found this very interesting. After most of us fell asleep, Vic was very courteous and stayed quiet so we could rest. When we got to our first stop, Vic kept us informed on every step of our journey. You never felt lost or nervous. Several of us were going onto other tours and would have a different driver. Vic kept everyone updated. Very grateful for his caring nature. After the Hobbiton, Vic lead us to Rotorua and again, did not disappoint. He made sure we had our tickets and lead us into Te Puia. Gave us a little history and our options. Guided us to a wonderful lunch and then we had a few ours to take a guided tour or go and explore on our own. After that we were picked up by another driver Dallas. Again, a wonderful experience with a knowledgeable driver who made the experience enjoyable. Can't say enough good things about this tour company. Wished we were there longer so we could have taken advantage of additional tours offered.

I will preface by saying this is a reputable company and I feel you can book with confidence. This is more about my experience which involved bad luck and timing. As they get into Summer season, extra driver/guides need to be hired and more buses are put on the road. I understand this is becoming more difficult for many companies. Our driver was a retired business man starting his second season. Unfortunately his inexperience really came through on this trip. Driving was a little aggressive but the commentary was the most annoying. He was trying hard, but he felt he needed to talk every minute of the tour, which actually would have been fine if he wasn't saying the same thing 3,4 or 5 times even. He may have been doing it to assist some of the passengers who did not know enough English. Unfortunately this still did not work as some still did not understand the instructions and we ended up leaving Hobbiton late. Our bus was one of the older ones pushing 600k on the odometer, unfortunately going up the big hill before Rotorua, the engine overheated and we had to pull over to the side for it to cool down making our arrival even later into Rotorua. The main reason we booked this tour was to be able to experience the Hangi lunch(recommended) and the cultural show(recommended). Unfortunately, due to the delays, we had to wolf down an incredible lunch in 15 minutes. We did make the show and though rushed managed to get the geysers and kiwi bird in before having to head back. The biggest disappointment was having paid so much money and not having time to enjoy the fabulous lunch or tour the site in a leisurely manner. Things happen when you travel, the guide will get better and not be as flustered now having the experience, the company has a good relationship with the Mercedes dealership so they drop everything to come out and fix the guard that was jarred loose and everybody got home safely which is what is most important......... the strength of the company is the differentiated tours they offer in a smaller group size, that is worth it if you find something you like.
