Know More about this tour

From the sea kayak base, you will paddle through a traditional, floating fish farm that is the mainstay of the local economy. The bird life here is spectacular with grey herons, white egrets and black kites all getting a free lunch! Your paddle takes you out into the East Lamma Channel before getting to the southern coast of the island to view the beautiful and remote granite cliffs.

Our destination is a golden sand beach that rings this crescent bay. Here you can have a swim and lunch. We leave the kayaks here to start our afternoon hike.

We visit Sham Wan (Turtle Bay) which is an easy 15-minute walk to view the only nesting place in Hong Kong for the endangered Green Sea Turtle except during July to October when the beach is closed to visitors to protect the hatchery from destruction (breeding season).
The coastal hike is about 7 k's on an easy grade with plenty of shade, very much appreciated hot sunny days. On the way,you will learn some of the histories of the island as you pass through deserted stone villages and abandoned ginger farms. A fascinating island that time has forgotten.

Our day finishes with time to catch the 5:35 pm ferry back to the city of Hong Kong.

This day trip is divided into 2 sections, which may be reversed depending on wind, sea or tidal conditions.

  • Really enjoyed this tour and Dave was the perfect guide filled lots of facts and historical notes about Hong Kong and Lamma Island. The weather and water conditions were also perfect, which made the tour even better. I would recommend to anyone that would like to see and feel Hong Kong from a different perspective. Specifically the South China Sea.

  • The best experience ... even better than climbing and that's a big call!!!!! This is a must do trip, an eye-opener to the natural beauty of HK and the ridiculous pace at which it is disappearing. Dave, thanks for your invaluable insights and humour. You really are the man!! It was a pity I couldn't stay longer in HK otherwise, I would have booked for the week to head out everyday. Many thanks again for an exceptional day.

  • I am not really good at writitng reviews and usually honestly I dont really bother but this was so worth it. My girlfriend and I had an amazing day. Dave was really knowledgable and gave us great insides on the Hong Kong environment and the treats the wildlife is under. I can not recommand enough this tour as you will not forget it. I was trully expecting an eductional day with regards to environmental issue and we got what we paid for. The kayaking experience was great also truly a great way to discover an hidden and beautiful face of Hong Kong. Once again I highly highly recommand Dave you are the man!

  • Amazing day at Lamma with Dave - a truly inspirational guide who is very experienced in sea kayaking. Great fun amongst good company and learnt a lot, nice food and weather couldn't ask for more.

  • Having found out I had a whole free day during my business trip, I signed up with Sea Kayak Hong Kong. However, when I showed up at the pier, our tour guide Dave was there to tell me that the tour was cancelled due to bad weather turn out there were several e-mails notices that I failed to check!. Feeling rather disappointed, I was about to head back to town. But Dave suggested we may be able to do a 1 on 1 intermediary kayaking course, if the weather was not too bad by the time we get to the site.

When we got to the kayaks, the sea was rough, the wind was fairly strong, but in the end, we decide it was still ok get to the sea. So we spent the day learning different paddle stroke, navigating through the tides, wind, kayak control in different direction around Lamma island... all while trying to stay upright in pretty scary waves! Dave is an excellent tour guide and instructor, knowledgeable, experienced, it was quite amazing that he managed to keep me upright the whole time in the choppy sea. At the end of the day, I have learnt more about sea kayaking than all my tours before.

Ive kayaked in some amazing spots around the world, but I have to say this is the most fun Ive had. Anyone who likes to kayak, or enjoy seeing a very different side of the typical Hong Kong should check out their tour, it is amazing.
