Know More about this tour

Upon entering the Fiordland National Park, the largest National Park in NZ, travel up along side the Eglington River to three mountain lakes at the head of the Eglington Valley. During this part of the journey you will make the first of our many sightseeing stops that also allow for some great photo opportunities. You have a couple of different locations for lunch and will endeavor to select the best spot on the day. With some fantastic walks in the area, this is a great opportunity to experience the beautiful alpine forest up close.

After lunch you head towards the Homer Tunnel, taking in some incredible mountain views while driving along side the crystal clear waters of the Hollyford river. Once through the Homer Tunnel, you'll wind the way down the Cleddau Valley. At this time you arrive in an area called Fiordland but are visiting a "Sound", the difference will be explained.

You link up with a scenic cruise for a 1hour and 45 minute excursion on the fjord.

The barbecue lunch includes a classic Kiwi BBQ of marinated lamb kebabs, chicken kebabs and sausages, a good range of salads, fresh bread and fruit juice. Vegetarian patties are available on request. Please be sure to specify any dietary requirements at the time of booking.

Important Note: During the months of May to October and the Early Bird Summer departures the itinerary for this tour will be modified. In place of the BBQ lunch enroute to Milford sound, the tour will include a full scenic cruise with a BBQ lunch on board the cruise boat.

Important Note:Please be aware that this is a full day excursion (up to 13 hours for our Summer tours) due to road distances.

We had a wonderful guide and a great boat cruise. There was a variety of food and it was delicious. Would do it again.

We had a great driver that provided a lot of information during the drive. Boat and lunch was great. It is a very long day but I'm really glad we took the time to do it. So many breath taking sights and pictures. The highlight was when the boat pulled into Wedding Veil Falls.

Milford Sound is a must-see, but be prepared for 80% of your day to be consumed by driving. Luckily, GT was an awesome tour guide and the bus was great for small groups and very comfortable. We had definitely expected a much longer experience on the water (it lasted approx 2 hrs), but we now understand that sheer distance from Queenstown to the Sound makes that pretty much impossible (approx 3-4 hrs each way driving). Ultimately, I’m only giving 4 stars because the buffet was so disappointing. If you want to reduce your time on the road and maximize time outdoors, consider staying in the nearby town Te Anau and finding a tour that has better food options—or a cheaper option that allows you more flexibility for lunch. Thanks again to GT for making such a long drive so entertaining and enlightening!

Our driver/guide Andy was very knowledgeable and entertaining.... important on a 8 hour road trip.
BBQ meal was a little disappointing because not much food left for people on end of queue

Excellent trip, I visited the place with my wife on our honeymoon. It was mesmerizing and a heavenly experience. It was raining and our guide Kreig told us that we are lucky to experience that sort of a climate and as the tour progressed we could see why it was true. Multiple waterfalls appeared and those looked awesome while we enjoyed a wonderful barbeque lunch on the cruise. Krieg is a very knowledgeable person, shared many facts about the place and the country of New Zealand. He kept us entertained thoroughly.
Lovely atmosphere with drizzling throughout the day. We spotted some seals too. The cruise took us beneath few waterfalls and gave us many opportunities for capturing photographs.

This was a fantastic experience! This was a bit of a drive but our tour guide Grant was fantastic and was so knowledgeable about the area. Milford sound was beautiful but we also had the opportunity to stop multiple times along the way to see other beautiful parts of Fjordland National Park and even got to see some sites where Lord of the Rings was filmed!

We had a nice sunny day which made the experience even better. Your guide was knowledgeable and very accomadating. The staff on board was also very knowledgeable. They were extremely helpful avnd made sure all your individual needs were met. I would recommend this cruise to anyone. The intimacy of the trip was quite appart as compared to the large your groups. This company truly made the experience individualized for everyone on the van and boat.
