Know More about this tour

Voronet Monastery was built in 1488 in record time: three months, three weeks and three days, today being part of the UNESCO heritage. The exterior murals have preserved their hues despite centuries of inclement weather, but the ingredients used in preparing the paints are still a mystery. The scenes in the murals depict, like a movie, the history of Christianity, presented in an original manner, very much influenced by folk beliefs, by the Eastern culture, but also by the Orthodox thought.
Moldovita Monastery, included in the UNESCO heritage in 1993, was built between 1532 and 1537. For hundreds of years, the murals were the only way uneducated country dwellers could learn about the teachings of the Bible. The frescoes are an immense color illustration of Biblical scenes, adapted to the history of the place and to the important moments in the life of the community.
Sucevita Monastery is the newest of the Painted Monasteries of Bukovina, and it was included in the UNESCO Heritage in 1993. It was built in a Moldavian style, with Gothic and Byzantine influences. The murals are dominated by a shade of green, obtained through an ancient technique from natural pigments.

Iulian gave us an absolutely perfect experience of the monasteries. He is extremely knowledgeable and devoted to learning, reflected in the care with which he shared details around everything from history and art through modern-day times. We used everything we learned as vital context to the rest of our Romanian travels. He was friendly and attentive to our travel needs and questions. I would have loved to book with him for more tours, and certainly will in the future.

We had a wonderful day and a great experience seeing the unique painted monasteries. George was our guide, and we couldn't have dreamed of a better person to show and tell us all of the important and interesting information regarding not only the monasteries, but also Bucovina and Romania as a whole. George was very professional, passionate and able to explain the details about the paintings in a very clear. He made us feel very comfortable, checked frequently on our needs, drove well and responsibly- a great guide and a great guy. It was the best day of our stay at Romania, and we will surely remember it for the beautiful landscapes of Bucovina and mystic atmosphere of the monasteries.

The main reason for my recent trip to Romania was to view the religious srt in the Orthodox and Byzantine churches and monasteries in Bucharest and in Bucovina, located in northeastern Romania. The highlight of my trip to Romania was the visit to the UNESCO Painted Monasteries of Bucovina. These incredible Byzantine monasteries are worthy of a trip to Romania. I was very fortunate to have Mihai as my private driver and guide. Mihai is very pleasant and a very responsible driver, and a great conversationalist. I learned a lot about the fascinating history of Moldavia from Mihai. We visited the 3 most important and best preserved painted monasteries of Bucovina: Voronet, Moldovita and Sucevita, and we spent about 1 hour in each. Each one of these monasteries is a treasure. Mihai explained to me in detail the meaning of each fresco painted outside and inside each monastery. To summarize, this was an unforgettable day in my life, and I highly recommend doing this private day trip to every visitor coming to Romania.

Excellent guides and great experience .Unfortunately it was just one day tour to three beautiful Bukovina painted monasteries : Voronet Monastery Moldovita Monastery Sucevita Monastery They are mesmerizing and our guides Nicu & Mihai was superb in explaining their religious significance. World class service provided by Nicu and Miahi. We overlapped with Mihai at one of the three Monasteries. He gave us a detailed tour of the Monastery and shared his extensive knowledge with us. It was very informative and entertaining at the same time. Nicu spent the entire day with us and went above and beyond to accommodate us. He is very knowledgeable, professional and at the same time personable and hospitable guide. My friends and I are grateful to have had this amazing experience. If you come to Iasi to see the painted Monasteries (which are breathtaking), look no further, Rolandia is the way to go. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

This is an amazing tour.... My guide was Iulian and he is very friendly and a very good driver! His explanations about Romania and specifically about Bucovina were very useful and very detailed and convenient. He also helped me because I had a problem with my phone. Painted Monasteries in Bucovina are top in Europe, an amazing landscape WITH UNIQUE MONASTERIES, with a wonderful art and incredible conservation! Romanian people is kind, cozy and very proud about their traditions and history. Romania is a very nice country, and very safe. I traveled it alone from Iasi to Sibiu by train during 12 days, and I only found kindness, beauty, amazing landscapes, historic cities... See you soon!!!!!!

Recently took the private day trip from Iasi to the UNESCO painted monasteries in Bucovina. A “bucket list” tour for sure! Our guide Iulian spoke perfect English, was prompt, professional and extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the three painted monasteries we visited in Bucovina. The monasteries themselves: spectacular! Breathtaking! How the painted frescos which adorn the churches, exposed to almost six hundred years of the elements, have survived is known only to God. Iulian unlocked many of the mysteries surrounding the art work and structures in just enough detail. Driving there and back was scenic and extremely comfortable in our new Audi sedan which was immaculate and air conditioned. Lunch: scrumptious. The restaurant, once a stopover for Prince Charles during a similar tour, had all the local favorites which were freshly prepared and bursting with local flavors. Can’t thank Iulian and Rolandia Tours enough for a trip which certainly is a highlight of our four years spent living in Romania. We shall absolutely return for more tours in the area with our fabulous guide!
