Great day out, although it was a bit rushed. Our guide didn’t really give us a chance to slow down…although to be fair he did ask us at a couple of places if we wanted a guide. The most disappointing thing was the ship building factory, as we were put into the middle of the tour, and all they seemed to care about was getting us into the shop. In contrast was the rum tasting, which was set at our pace.
Did this amazing tour today and can’t recommend it highly enough. Full days tour led by the wonderful Brinda from mercury tours and her driver and 2nd team member. Intermit and so knowledgeable. Informative and entertaining. Took charge of everything and didn’t need to queue at all to enter the numerous locations we visited. Brinda never rushed us and was always there to answer any questions. Would recommend using mercury tours for this amazing and unique tour
We were picked by our driver Avinash. Along with us there was nice couple from Netherland. We first went to Ship building factory which is nice. Then we went to Volcanic crater which is a typical touristic point and average. Then we went the Ganga talav and Hindu temple which was nice. After that we went for lunch to a Zulu restaurant. The food was average. Then we went to Rum testing. IT was packed and we could not get the property guide so our driver shown us the process and the rum testing. We bough few rum bottles. Then we went to waterfall and seven colored sand which was nice. Overall nice tour.
Great trip, tour guide very knowledgeable and friendly. Lots to see. Scenery is beautiful. A must do tour, especially visiting the rum factory!
The South West tour was very good and we booked it after doing the Full day Dolphins watching which was amazing too. Our driver was Annish for the first tour and we insisted to have him again for the South West trip because he made the 2 tours so much better! He was always there in advance to pick us up at the hotel. Also, he is a safe driver and always gave us lots of details about the places we were visiting. Overall, the communication with the tour operator and/or Annish was very good. Also, the fact that it is a private car makes the experience much better. Would absolutely recommend Eco Holidays and particularly Annish who was great!
From start to finish this was an excellent trip. You get to see many of the key features of the island from the comfort of a clean air conditioned vehicle and get to beat the tourist busses to destinations. A special mention to Anish who drove us around and gave us detailed explanations at all sites. He looked after us royally and was a absolute credit to the tour operator. Overall great value and a stress less tour in complete safety
Good all round trip visiting some of the key attractions in SW Mauritius. After the visiting wooden ship retail outlet and cashmere shop we headed out first to Trois aux Cerfs the extinct volcanic crater great views over the island as well Grand Bassin followed next very interesting Hindu shrines / temple / statues/ holy lake Black River Gorge viewpoint - spectacular view Chamarel waterfall came next and also the 7 coloured earths. Final visit was to the Chamarel rum distillery set in exotic grounds with a tour and tasting Overall the experience of a long days travel was positive - the places visited provided interest and culture about Mauritius. Our guide provided limited input at some of the places but was enthusiastic about the Hindu place of pilgrimage and was excellent in the minibus regards the island. Huge disappointment was the included lunch chicken and chips with poor quality ice cream - not very Mauritanian
We had the full-day southwest tour. Our driver turned up at the hotel on time but didn't explain anything to us just drove without really saying anything. It would have been really useful to have some kind of information about where we were actually going that day or even just the name of the first stop. We did ask the driver for this information but he seemed a bit confused and didn't really answer. I would suggest that a little flyer or map or anything would be useful. After about an hour of driving, we were taken to 4 shops that we weren't really interested in (Souvenirs, Diamonds, Kashmir, Model ships), but still had to walk around for 10 minutes so as not to be rude. The Kashmir jumper shop, in particular, was a very hard-selling kind of place that wanted us to spend a lot of money with them so we just left politely. We didn't reach our first proper stop on the tour (the volcano) until about 2 hours after starting. The stops themselves are stunning, with some amazing views across the island, and some really interesting geography (Waterfalls, Forest, Gorges, Volcano, etc) but our driver didn't really know anything about them. So we didn't have any information about the locations. We also didn't have any mobile data so couldn't look it up either. Lunch was bad. We were taken to a bad cafe at the roadside which seemed to be full of people doing the same thing (i.e. people that had been taken there by a taxi driver as part of a tour). Our driver said that the curry was really good, so I had chicken and my wife had vegetable. Both were very bland, and the chicken was very tough/dry. All in all, the sights were fantastic, but the experience was not great for the price. No information, bad lunch, and the driver kept dropping us off right in the way of everybody else (coaches and other taxis etc) which meant that we kept having to open the doors into moving traffic (even when there was an empty car park right there).
Great trip. We have seen a lot within one day. Our driver was amazing. Provided us with a lot of information. Definitely recommend.
This is not a guided tour. It was like a taxi service where the driver took as to places as mentioned in the itinerary. He will just mention where the next drop off would be and what to do, then he will just wait outside. Nothing like a proper guided tour with some information of the place or whatsoever. The driver (Yash) barely interacted with us. It may be worth the money since it’s private with no other passengers and the long distances to cover the places. Other than not, I did not enjoy this package, I won’t recommend. Unless you want a driver only, then you may consider it.
