Know More about this tour

The day starts at 9am with a free pickup from your central city accommodation . We head out approximately 40minutes from the ctiy towards the West Coast . Situated at the foothills of the Waitakere ranges we drive through Titirangi, an area rich in culture and with many galleries and outdoor Cafes it is a favorite spot for artists of many kinds.

We then head up the aptly named Scenic Drive where our first stop is the Arataki Visitor Center. Perched high on the ridge there are some amazing views of both coasts from the lookouts. Inside there are many interactive displays showcasing animals, plant life and early settlers lives in the ranges.

From here we head out to see a pristine area of native rainforest with many trees over 1000 years old. We also walk through the bush which is a relatively flat 1.5 km loop. If you would rather you can just do a section of the walk.

After some morning tea we head over to see two of our more famous west coast beaches Piha and Karekare. Although right next to each other on the Coast they are worlds apart in nature and ambience. Piha has the epic views , the iconic Lion rock and is famous for its surf , many people call Piha home. Karekare by contrast has a different character, it is more brooding and isolated in nature and very few people live there.

We walk on both beaches as well as seeing some beautiful waterfalls and walking through some enchanting Pohutakawa glades.
Karekare is also the site of our barbecue and while the barbecue is cooking some people stroll along the beach while others are happy to sit and relax by the river, the choice is yours.

Feeling refreshed and invigorated from your day in the fresh air we drop you back at your central city accommodation around 4.30-5.00pm.

Spectacular day with Brett who showed us the very best of the west coast scenery and beaches; extremely knowledgeable about everything local. His photographic tips were interesting and practical, easy to put to use. He helped us compose photos and took photos of us and the scenery which he will forward to us. He was very enjoyable to spend time with and tempers the pace of the tour to suit the participants. The tour does involve lots of walking and good walking or hiking shoes would be highly recommended. Overall, a fantastic day!!

Driver was well informed on local sights. Tour was satisfactory not his fault that there was not as much wildlife as advertised on line prior to trip.

This tour is truly INCREDIBLE!! Brett was an amazing guide, and we saw lots of truly unbelievable scenery!!! One of the best tours we've ever had (and we travel a lot!!). Brett's wife even made a chocolate cake for our group that we enjoyed at Piha beach toward the end of our day. He sent professional quality photos that he took of our family that day as well!! Thanks again Brett!!!

This trip was great, especially when I was the only one on the trip. Tour guide was awesome. He took pictures with his camera and offered to take pictures with my phone. I was taken to a few extra locations since we were very good on time since it was just us two. Lunch stop was good. Few options avail in the little shop we stopped at. At the last stop, he offered me coffee or tea while we sat and admired the ocean. Had an awesome time. He even offered to take me to another location but I was tired after a long day. Really enjoyed this trip. Will definitely recommend.

It was a wonderful day, full of adventure. I'm an amature photographer but I do like exploring, seeing beautiful sights and taking pictures on my point-and-shoot camera to capture those memories. This tour is for anyone who wants to see some of the off the beaten path areas of the West Coast. I was also very thankful that the tour was not cancelled because there were only 2 of us that signed up for that day. Thank you!

Everything went very well. Jus 4 of us on tour which made for a very personalized tour and plenty of opportunity to talk with guide. Tour guide and driver, Brett, was great especially his knowledge of the rainforest fauna. Enjoyed our time and glad we went.

Brett lead a fantastic tour. I got to learn about some of the culture, see some beautiful landscape and walked the beaches and up some different trails. It was a very worthwhile tour. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Brett is very personable.

Brett, set the bar pretty high...what can I say...He has now forever spoiled me for future tours to come. He was prompt picking me up, great conversationalist, warm and friendly, uber knowledgeable about photography, the bush, New Zealand's history, the ocean, wildlife, and the overall geography, and he was very patient. Also there is a lot of diversity you will see on the tour with respect to terrain, so never a dull moment (e.g. beaches, cliffs, wildlife, waterfalls, you name it you will see it). Because it was just him and I on the tour we did a bit of climbing and hiking which was nice to get to see the really great views! However he ensures that he caters the tours for the current client, so if you have arthritis or other ailments he will make modifications to the tour and maybe cutout some of the strenuous climbing. But just being honest, to truly enjoy NZ you need to be in decent shape. There are a lot of mountains, hills, rough terrain, and cliffs, that put a hurting on my thighs. But a much needed one. Moving right along, Brett showed me how to take proper photos, he took plenty of photos of me that I can keep, and I felt like we were on an adventure I didn't want to end. I also loved the restaurant we stopped in.... It was packed with locals and the food was scrumptious. I was sad when it was over but I felt like I got more than my money's worth...I got a real piece of New Zealand that I will always have in my heart.

Brett was a phenomenal tour guide who shared incredible amounts of information about New Zealand and the areas he showed us. Getting away to the west coast of the north island is a must do, and this tour goes to some incredible sights including secluded beaches, waterfalls, and deep forests like no other. Take a camera -- you won't be disappointed!
