Overview
Galle is the administrative capital of Southern Province and the fourth largest city in Sri Lanka. Before the arrival of the Portuguese in the 16th century, Galle was the main port on the island and has reached the height of its development in the 18th century during the Dutch colonial period. Galle is the best example of a fortified city built by the Portuguese in South and Southeast Asia that shows the interaction between Portuguese architectural styles and native traditions. It’s not everyday that you have an Air Force veteran giving you a tour of the historic Galle fort. It was very detailed and a lot of fun. The fort is just beautiful.

Very nice cycling tour. Chameera is a very good guide who know very well history about Galle. We saw Galle fort, fishers on the beach, fish & vegetable markets. Road is flat so no worry. Highly recommended.

Our morning tour with Chameera ticked all our boxes, and then some we hadn’t previously considered! Although we had read quite a bit about Sri Lankan general history, and about Galle in particular, Chameera added a personal (lived experience) dimension to our to our knowledge. We wove in & out of traffic, along busy roads, but always felt completely safe. He pointed out aspects of local life and culture, making history come alive. Chameera also exposed the harsh realities of poor people (eg fisherman and stall holders) whose interests and livelihoods are overlooked by the greed & corruption of corporate powerholders. Possibly the best tour we have done.

Chameera was very friendly and knowledgeable. Felt very safe riding through the hustle and bustle of Galle. The tour didn’t feel rushed at all. He had lots of breaks for coconuts, ice creams, red bananas, mangosteens and rambutan.

We went on the Galle fort and city cycling tour and it was better than what I expected. Excellent tour guide with in-depth knowledge, really looked after us on some busy roads, we never felt in danger. Provided lovely refreshments on our trip, best tour we’ve been on for a long time

Chameera is an amazing guy. Friendly, loyal, a man of integrity and good character. Went the extra miles for me as I wanted to taste some Sri Lankan delicacies. Gave me everything I desired and more. Felt safe on the tour amidst the chaotic traffic and crazy bus drivers :) He looks after you so well. Was well prepared with bike lights and hi-vis vests as we ended the tours after sunset. Highly recommended.

We went on this tour as a family - children 11 + 14. Were a little concerned about a) riding in the left side b) the mad traffic. Everything went smoothly- the three accompanying guides took great care of us. And we stopped at several little places we would not have seen on our own. Can highly recommend Chameera and his team.
