Overview

The Gap of Dunloe is a magnificent defile running four miles between the McGillycuddy Reeks and the Purple mountain group. At the entrance to the gap is a famous cottage, named after a woman called Kate Kearney who died in childbirth at the age of 102!

Know More about this tour

Having arrived at the cottage by coach the visitor then commences the seven mile journey through the Gap to Lord Brandons cottage by trap, pony or on foot, where a light lunch can be obtained. There is much evidence of glacial action in the Gap, in striae and ice-molded rocks.

The towering summits of the Reeks, the changing shadows on the Purple and Tomies mountains, the silence and solitude of the rugged glen all combine to make an unforgettable impression upon the visitor. The boats depart from Brandon Cottage approx 2.15pm and arrive later in the afternoon at Ross Castle having come through the three lakes of Killarney. On this section of the tour you will be enchanted by the stories and folklore of the boatmen. Motorcoach will await you at Ross Castle to take you back to Killarney.

MUST DO in Killarney! Had so much fun riding horseback through the Gap of Dunloe. Gorgeous scenery with sheep everywhere. Our guide Sean was helpful, funny and interesting. The boat ride back to Ross Castle was unfortunately rainy and chilly, but beautiful. HIGHLY recommend!

This was one of our favorite tours. We were lucky to have beautiful, clear weather. This tour shows off the beauty of Ireland. Be sure to ride in one of the jaunty cars and be told a lot of history for this area. This tour I would take again.

It was a terrific day.The tour people were well organized,on time and very helpful. We elected to have part of the group ride and the others in the carriage. The sun was glorious! Don't miss this.

They put us on the wrong bus and didn't know it until they announced the destination just as the bus was pulling away. So instead of this tour, costing 25 each, we were on the Rings of Kerry tour, costing 20 each. Our tour was fine but not what we paid for.

We really enjoyed the trip. Our guides were very knowledgeable and we have learned a lot. Charlie the dog was a surprise host on the boat ride. Everybody love Charlie at the end of the boat ride!

This was a great activity. The views were gorgeous. I actually liked the boat ride the best. The driver that " coordinates " the tour simply drives you to the entrance of the gap in an old smelly van ( short trip so it's ok). Then explains the tour somewhat vaguely, and picks u up at the end.

Enjoyed the tour very much. Take the horse cart in the middle of the tour rather than walk, It's along walk up hill and was not included in our tour price. Shared the cart with one other couple so it was an extra 40 Euro.
