On leaving Inverness we travel on the old A9 through Fraser (Outlander) and Mackenzie country to the lovely town of Beauly. The priory there was the home of the Valliscaulian monks since around 1230. Mary Queen of Scots visited here in 1564 and on arrival said BEAU LIEU- beautiful place. It is the official burial ground of the Mackenzie clan.
The Ord distillery dates back to 1838 it is the only single malt distillery on the Black Isle. The water for the mashing was taken from the Cuckoo Well and employed 18 people in the early days. Now it has 7 was stills and is owned by Diageo now the water come from the White Burn.
the Glenmorangie was founded in Tain in 1843 it has 6 wash stills and spirit stills the water source is from Tarlogie springs in the Tarlogie hills owner Louis Vuitton Moet Hennesy- Glenmorangie is now the 3rd largest selling single malt in the world. Tasting only .
Possibly the oldest working distillery in the Highlands in operation since 1790 only Glenturret, Bowmore and Strathisla have been operating longer. Records suggest however Balblair distillery was in existence in the 1740s. today however it is not where it started, it was rebuilt in 1895 to be closer to Edderton rail station water source the Alt Dearg.
This distillery has the most modern visitor centre in the north , in the town of Brora. Its whisky goes in to the Johnny walker brand .A fantastic vist
You will see all inside of castle on a self guided tour ,the magnificent castle gardens, the castle museum and there is a Falcon display twice a day BUT in order to do this we would have to miss out probably 2 distilliers

We got more than a tour of distilleries, we got great insights into the history and culture all around us. This is a must do tour!

I highly recommend Johnny! He was punctual, very knowledgeable about the Highlands and made arrangements for us along the way for whisky tastings, snacks, local highlights and history. He went above and beyond what we expected on our day tour!

George escorted us around the area and made fabulous suggestions. We loved the Clynelish Distillery tour and Dun Robin castle. George is knowledgeable and friendly and made sure we had a wonderful tour.We would take a tour with George again and highly recommend!

George is the owner and tour guide. His first focus is making sure you have a great time and enjoy your day. He is flexible on itineraries and we really appreciated that. We really enjoyed his knowledge of the area and his humor. Me and my son were the only ones on the tour that day but he didn't cancel on us like others. We used him for two different distillery tours. I would use him again and again. Thanks George for the amazing memories!

Fantastic day trip of speyside with George! Wonderful experience, George the best guide possible with education, humor, and knowledge about the distilleries as well as the highlands, one of our best trips. Thank you George!

The scenery and whisky are amazing but so was the time with George in the van. He is funny knowledgeable and flexible.

What a great way to see the Scottish Highlands! George was a fabulous host and shared information and stories only a local could as we traveled the beautiful countryside. At his suggestion, we were even able to substitute one of the distilleries for a stop at Dunrobin Castle…so glad we did! The tour at Clynelish was amazing and we felt like VIP’s! So much better than any excursion offered from our ship and a much better price and George had us back to port with time to spare!

We ended up exploring the Speyside region due to a lack of open distilleries in the North. George picked us up at our Airbnb in Inverness and we joined one other couple for the day. We made it to four different tasting rooms. Along the way we stopped to see highland cattle and other points of interest. George is a great driver and has deep knowledge of the area. For lunch we grabbed meat pies and sausage rolls to go. It was perfect.

George is clearly a professional. Comprehensive knowledge. Entertaining company. Punctual. Always adding his local experience and changing the route as conditions permit to ensure you see as much as possible. Absolutely fantastic day. Balblair in particular not to be missed.

Our guide was very knowledgeable of the area and tried very hard to get us into the best distilleries dispite all the covid restrictions
